Charley burley vs Stanley ketchel over 15 rounds Hiawatha grey , Archie Moore , Eddie futch and ray arcel have all been quoted as saying burley is the best fighter that they ever saw. Ketchel is rated in the top ten middleweights of all time by most boxing historians. will his aggressive style and power punches ensure that he wins this match- up
Not totally on the arcel one to be honest always new arcel rated him very highly but was reading on the net somewhere that arcel did but always thought arcel might of gone for benny to be honest. Grey is a cheeky one he was I think burley's trainer but he was a boxing man who's lineage in boxing goes back to the times of jack Johnson and obviously ketchel. I do remember reading about him ( being a good trainer) a bit when I was in my teens so that was quite a few years back now :|
Well that's like if Ali's only recorded fight was a loss and not a great performance of his... I'd still take Burley though
Interesting about Grey. Arcel did consider Benny the best but then made what he said was a very hard decision, that Duran replaced him in that position. That was before No mas and the great distraughtness it caused Arcel though.
Not comfortable saying ketchel by KO and he isn't outboxing Burley, so yeah I like Burley by decision.
Yeah cause its one of his worst fights you saw, not a great performance by him I agree with that im just saying Ketchel was better than what is on film of him
Burley by landslide dec. possible late stoppage, from what I've seen he's just waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Ketchel. Sure Ketchel can punch but Burley was never KO'd despite fighting bigger and better opponents than Ketchel, no reason to think that Ketchel with his primitive and amatuerish swings could pull the trick.
Saying "Ketchel was better than what is on film of him" would work if he was well past prime or if the footage of him had glimpses of greatness here and there but with Ketchel, IMO, neither is the case. Tony Galento looks more skilled than Ketchel on film.
