Charley Rose top 10 in the 8 Traditional divisions

Rose is the lone historian I have archived ( And I have about 30 of them ) who thinks McVey was in the top ten.

 

To be fair though he is one of the few who had direct experience of McVea.

A lot of people at the time saw him as a force to be reckoned with.

 

I like Jack Britton up there. He was a great fighter and any doubt should be turned away by his performance against a priming Benny Leonard stepping up from LW. Leonard failed to do what his Panamanian progeny succeeded to do six decades later. Britton, who was long past prime, was handling him by many accounts that I've seem.

 

They McVea went 2-6-5 2ND against Langford. Two wins of Langford and one draw where newspaper decisions. Langford came out on top but it´s hardly that he beat him over and over.

 

Would you mind upping some of them? Discussing these seems to make a good thread.

 

And how does that make a difference?

 

I think if you rate Lanford high, Johnson high, McVey high, I think you would have to rate Jennete high. They were the best black fighters of their era and most definately world class.

 

I've been in this sport for pushing 30 years, participating, getting hit in the face and hitting in the face, reading, collecting films, collecting newspaper articles.

Does that mean you should take my opinion more seriously? No, this is the lousy internet.

But does that mean I really give a **** what you think? Figure that one out for yourself.

And for the record, I really value Janitor's input. He sticks to his guns and has informed passion for his arguments.

 

But where´s the difference of the worth of your oppinion to that of janitor?

And having read and boxed for 30 years doesn´t mean you are the only one who knows what he is talking for sure.
