Fusari had the backing of some shady characters to say the least, and he did have a number of fights that weren`t on the level the most notable of them being the Robinson bout. But with that said he was a competent fighter and legitimate contender for a time, but he was never going to be good enough to become champion and that about sums him up I`d say.

The Robinson fight was a fix? I thought it was a dull decision with Robinson better as one would expect. What makes you think it was a fix?

It wasn`t exactly a fix per se, not in the true definition of the word, but Ray was essentially told to carry Fusari by the Chicago Outfit. In fact, several of Robinson`s fights in Chicago weren`t on the level and this comes to me from a friend of mine who`s word I do not doubt as his old man was involved with the Outfit in Chicago and guys like Sam Giancana and Johnny Roselli to name a few were regular visitors to his household as a child.

There are also other reliable sources available that will attest to this fact, one of them being Allan Rosenfeld`s book on Charley Burley in which he mentions this fight and what took place beforehand. Fusari`s manager was aware of what was going on as I believe George Gainford went up to him before the fight and told him that as long as his fighter behaved himself in the ring the fight would go the distance.
