Anyone have information on this fight? Does footage exist?

I know Magri beat Laciar on points, but I've heard it was a gift. Was it?

Hard to beat a fighter the level of Magri could beat a guy the level of Laciar.

Footage does exist, yeah. Saw it about ten years ago.

Yeah, I recall thinking that Laciar was hard done by as I remember, quite clearly so. Magri put up a good fight but got outjabbed and countered trying to hop into range mostly.

I do not think footage exists, I have certainly have not seen it.

I do know I have strong vibe that Laciar was robbed blind. Thus, with no footage, I think my Dad must have gone, I know he had a lot of time for Laciar, but was also a big Champagne Charlie fan.

Read Laciar's "Best I faced" Interview. So, he doesn't think that it was robbery:

    BEST OVERALL SKILLS

CHARLIE MAGRI: It was one of the first fights outside my country. I was very much a rookie: he moved a lot. It was hard to get him into the corners; he constantly clinched. It was hard to fight him.

As Laciar's fan I would like to watch this fight...

Now I have seen the fight:
Rd. One: Laciar floors magri with a right hand in the first seconds of the round, but is lucky not to be disqualified for hitting Magri on the floor. Magri in all sorts of bother for the rest of the round.

Rd. Two: Magri in control with left jabs due to his longer reach. Dangerrous looking body shots from Laciar.

According to the commentator Magri had good rounds three to five.

Rd. Six: Good round for Magri. Laciar under pressure due to good uppercuts from Magri.

Rd. Eight: Laciar starts very well and has Magri under pressure, but tires later in the round and Magri rains punches on Laciar who is forced to hold.

Rd. Nine: Good round for Laciar scoring with long hooks and swings.

Rd. Ten: Slugfest with Magri clearly outscoring Laciar.

What a fight! Decision for Magri looks to be okay.
Two years later Laciar was a much better fighter. Maybe he matured late.

@Xplosive, I'll try and have this uploaded by the end of the week. It's more like extended highlights than the full fight but it's better than nothing, eh? Here were my thoughts:

Great fight! Huge heart on Magri, the way he came back from the first was extremely impressive. Magri looked to get the better of quite a few exchanges, but Laciar was countering extremely well. Brilliant uppercut from Magri, who times Laciar's bob when his back was to the ropes. He had Laciar hurt from it, but Santos didn't stop fighting back.

The British broadcast said Magri did well in rounds 3, 4 & 5, implying he won them. He definitely won round two from what I saw, and round one was about as conclusive as I've ever seen a round won for Laciar. Then round eight was clear as day for Magri. Nine was good for Laciar. Ten was a toss up, greater round.

Decision looked on a level from this, although that depends on believing the British commentary, so make of it what you will.

No problems man, I'll also be uploading Ortega-Fernadez II, Kelley-Rivera and Zamzam-Daari. But if you're thanking anyone, thank @Woller who sent me all four fights on disc free of charge. He's a great guy and I'm really thankful.

I went to this fight at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Great fight, as Magri fans we feared the worst when he hit the deck in the first round; Charlie had a reputation of being vulnerable around the chin even at this point in his career. But Magri came back well in the fight. It was close, but my recollection was that it was a fair decision and I remember Boxing News writing the same. I think Laciar was still a work in progress at this point, Laciar's subsequent achievements meant this turned out to be a better win for Magri than was thought at the time, I think in global terms Santos was a well kept secret at this point.

Mickey Duff, the great matchmaker, nearly had another "Stracey-Palomino" moment when he made this match...

This was a very good bill, Tony Sibson won the EBU title with a KO win over Matteo Salvemini of Italy; Lloyd Honeyghan had his pro debut on this card too. There was also a thunderous HW British title eliminator between Neville Meade & Big Stan McDermott, if my memory serves me correctly...
