I've seen so many trash a (very) possible future opponent and then if it happened barely scrape by or lose, making them look ridiculous in the process.

 

This. If you're going to trashtalk an opponent, you better make damn sure that you really can beat the bejeezus out of them. If you call a fighter worthless and a bum and then take a contested SD, it strongly implies that you yourself are worthless and a bum. If you lose, even worse. Cue Stevens.

 

although to be fair, its very difficult to trash talk a man who is largely undisputed, with a stack of 8 defences and been undefeated champ for 4 years. He'd look a fool to shyt on that, because that would make himself look REALLY bad.
