It's so true. Chisora has established a credible bad-boy/ghetto gangster image and milked his image for boxing and promotion. Even after taking a bullet to the stomach and surviving it Charr is not considered anything else than a wanna-be gangster joke in Germany.
I don't think Browne and Briggs is the worst. Browne knocked out Ruslan Chagaev in his last fight. Martin, Glazkov, Meehan, etc. never beat anyone remotely as good as Chagaev, let alone stopped them. Considering the shenanigans with drug testing in Russia after that, I look more on this as Browne's first WBA title defense. The last time we saw Browne in the ring, he won via convincing KO and took the belt. I've read nothing from the WBA that Charr is the new "interim" champ. The WBA has only announced that Browne-Briggs will be for the WBA belt. They've said nothing about Charr. Who cares what Bilde says. Frankly, nearly every paper and website reported that the WBA said Joshua and Wlad would be next spring for the WBA "super" title ... AND THE WBA NEVER SAID THAT EITHER. They just said they'd sanction Joshua-Wlad if they fought. They never said Joshua and Wlad were going to fight. They never said when they were going to fight. They were just responding to a request Joshua and Wlad made about their proposed fight in December, which got called off before the WBA even made their announcement. So the statement they'd sanction that fight was basically meaningless. The only WBA heavyweight fight on the schedule is Browne-Briggs. Browne won the WBA title in the ring in his last fight. We all saw him do it. He looked good. Chagaev is retired. Consider this Browne's first defense. Leave it at that. The rest is all noise.
Browne knocked out Chagaev. I know the Briggs fight isn't officially a title defense, but it'll eventually be seen that way in the years to come by fight film watchers. In the end, people don't remember all the political nonsense. They just watch the fights. Browne will beat Briggs. If he fights Oquendo next, he'll beat him, too. Browne isn't "lucky" Oquendo got hurt. Briggs will probably be harder to beat than Oquendo. Oquendo has zero left. Briggs can still punch. I'd probably rate Glazkov-Martin, Maskaev-Peter Okhello, Herbie Hide vs. Damon Reed and Willi Fischer, even Bruce Seldon-Joe Hipp as worse heavyweight title fights. Just off the top of my head.
The knockout stands on his record. He was cleared. You must've missed that. Ben Johnson and Lance Armstrong weren't. Neither was Botha or Toney. Like I said, it's not a first defense for Browne. But it'll be viewed that way in years to come. People watching his fights will see him knock out Chagaev to win the WBA belt. And they'll see his next fight came in a WBA title fight against Briggs, which Browne will win, too. And they'll see his next fight with Oquendo or whomever, also for the WBA belt. The positive drug test was overturned. Those who investigated believe he was set up by the Russians. His knockout over Chagaev stands. That's why he's getting a WBA title fight right now.
This is a moot point. Browne was cleared. Povetkin was cleared too, and we all know how clean he really is.
At least it's been the first time in 20 years that Chagaev and Valuev haven't been handed WBA straps.
Both fighters tested positive and both fighters were subsequently cleared. That's all that really matters when it comes down to it. Anything else is just pissing in the wind.
