And weighed in at 352 pounds, a career high. Almost 50 pounds higher than his previous highest. That was shocking, that and the fact that I just saw that had actually fought in the last few months. He was something of a feel good story on ESB a few years ago, and heavily supported by a few select posters. Don't know if they fell off the board as Chauncy seemed to with the sport at the beginning of 2015. Anyway, great early weekend talk to get everyone in a good boxing mindset.
Also he lost the fight, his opponent was 32-18 Marselles Brown, who's also 48 years old... Man, the heavyweight scene is like a Twilight Zone episode sometimes.
what happened to that guy that kept claiming everyone was ducking chauncey? that chauncey would soon be champ.
Well looking at his Wikipedia it looks like it was written by his mother or a master troll...(the last paragraph is the funniest) Chauncy Welliver (born 28 April 1983) is an American-New Zealand heavyweight boxer from Spokane, Washington who lives inAuckland, New Zealand. He has a career record of 55-10-5.[1] Throughout his career he has never been knocked down, let alone knocked out, onto the canvas, and at one point the WBC ranked him the 5th best boxer in the world.[2] He came to widespread attention when he fought Odlanier SolĂs in October 2008. He lost when the referee intervened in the ninth round but impressed many with his skills and decent chin. Welliver was then rated in the top 10 for some time by both the WBC and WBO after picking up numerous titles from these sanctioning bodies against limited opposition. His ranking dropped however when he suffered two defeats in 2012, being outpointed by Sherman Williams and Kyotaro Fujimoto. His ring name is the Hillyard Hammer. He is currently trained by former Native American HW Title Challenger, Joe "The Boss" Hipp. His current manager is Roland Jankelson. He is also a HW Consultant for the boxing radio show On The Ropes.[3] Welliver trains and coaches amateur boxers at Boxfit in Spokane, Washington.[4] On 31 January 2015, Welliver will fight against rugby football star Sonny Bill Williams, in what he has described as the biggest fight of his career[5] and Williams as "a better athlete than Michael Jordan."
That is... a pretty self serving Wikipedia article. Also, not all of it even applies considering he was stopped by Browne.
The MesserStick....yeah he was a moron of the highest-order, though he's been topped by Dinovelvet. Welliver was always a joke....a bouncer with little athletic ability and no discipline. It was no wonder that no promoter worth anything wanted anything to do with him and his joke of a trainer.
2 questions, Russell: 1) What rank does Chauncy Welliver occupy on the Russell Avian Scale? 2) Is it so wrong of me to want to see Chauncy Welliver vs Dustin Nichols face off in what would be billed as "The Battle of the Buffet"?
