Feedback I"m getting from people who saw it is that Welliver may have landed more punches than Williams. The fight may have been much closer than Internet reports indicate.

Either way, I'm saying we shouldn't make judgments until we get a chance to see the fight.

I think the scores at boxrec are off as well. 114-114 115-113 twice.

Nah, one was definitely close to a shutout for Williams and that's the on Kim felt was appropriate (saying the other judges had it too close for his liking). :conf

And I don't think Kim can exactly be labeled a Welliver hater, considering that he made time to fly out to freaking China of all places to cover what was supposed to be a showcase for him for the Western media...

Maybe if you offer to fight in a 24x24 ring and allow him the referree of his choice, you might be able to close this thing with Welliver.

No, one of the judges did indeed score it 119-110 for The Tank. On the other hand, feedback I've gotten from observers is that Welliver was never staggered, and that he may even have won the final three rounds.

Allegedly Williams boxed -- he didn't slug -- and drew Welliver in, then unloaded overhand right counters. That's what was impressive about Williams, I'm hearing. He outslicked Welliver on a tactical level. But, supposedly, Welliver was never hurt or staggered.

And finally, it's possible that Welliver actually outlanded Williams in terms of total shots.

But I need to watch the film before knowing for certain. I know that all too often, in fights like this, what's reported on the Internet isn't necessarily realistic. In these kinds of fights, you've got to watch the action very, very closely to get a good reading of what's happening.

But Kim is known to be prejudiced against cutie, light-hitting, boxer types. Of all the possible announcers for this bout, Kim is probably the one that would be least sympathetic to Welliver's style.

Welliver's manager is a smart, rich guy from Seattle and all of the boxers that he has managed over the years he does the same routine.....gets them unproven (but inexpensive) trainers, matches them with bums or over-the-hill opponents and then beats the drum to get attention and get them near a title fight.

Why not rather just start with someone talented and dedicated?
