Chaves vs Thurman + Berto vs Soto Karass RBR

This card is being slept on by many literally .

Both fights have intrigue as well as the makings to be potential FOTY affairs.

Diego Chaves hailing from Argentina is looking to join his fellow Argentine peers such as Marcos Maidana and Lucas Matthysse and Luis Abregu as household names to the American boxing audience and beyond.

The man who stands in his way is Keith 'One Time' Thurman a power punching contender from Florida. Thurman like Chaves is a big puncher with 18 stoppages coming in his 20 fights.

Combined both men have stopped 36 of 42 opponents and tonight they meet for the WBA Interim title. Chaves punches hard whilst remaining patient and steadily stalking his opponents before opening up with firm leads and hurtful counters.

Thurman is a dynamic fighter with speed, power and punch variation. His defence and commitment to offence will leave us on the edge of our seats.

Potential FOTY or KO of the year in this one.

Thurman is the favorite for a middle rounds stoppage but Chaves may expose some sloppy defence and vulnerabilities in the Florida natives armory.

Berto vs Soto Karass is make or break for both men. Soto Karas has been on a good run of form. Even in defeat to Marcos Maidana he hurt the Argentine on a few occassions only to let the fight slip and end up on the receiving end of a stoppage loss. But a win of Selcuk Aydin has lead him to this crossroads battle.

A win and he guarantee's himself another big fight with maybe the chance of challenging for a title. A loss and he slides back down the pecking order as a gatekeeper.

For Berto a loss ends his career at top level IMHO. A win will go some way to restoring his name after a bad 2 years.

Berto has the speed but Soto Karass the conditioning and style to drag the questionable stamina of Berto back into full view.

If Karass can get to work early he could well be digging for some gold!. For Berto he either keeps it clean or he goes out with the Bradley mentality and wages war to prove himself. Dangerous times..

 

Thurman very jumpy at times. Has to be careful because Chaves has come with bad intentions and likes to counter with left hook as you come in.

Nip and tuck round. Thurman edging it.

Heating up nicely!.

 

Chaves round for me. Controlled the action and Thurman's work looks ineffective. He's struggling to get his shots off and looks a little wary of Chaves.

Chaves defensively isn't bad either.

Good fight which i expect to open up now in round 3.

Thurman 2-1 now. Better timing and a few fire fighting moments with two big shots landed on Chaves.

 

Thurman working the angles nicely and working off the left hand beautifully. He's showing good defence now and slowly breaking Chaves down with hard counters and frustrating him.

Chaves punch form is now becoming wide and reckless. Needs to keep it straight as Thurman circles onto his right hand.

Thurman running away with this a little now. Chaves needs that power to come up trumps for him sooner rather then later.

 

Chaves needed that firefight at end of round 7. Gives him a bit of hope as Thurman was pulling away. Thurman is getting the better of the fire fighting exchanges but Chaves is relying on one punch now he's let the fight slip points wise. Allowed Thurman to out do him and outwork him.

 

More bark then bite in Thurman's punches not sure he's clenching the first on these shots and he does need to sit down more.

He admitted against Zaveck he didn't do that enough..

 

Thurman drops Chaves with a lovely body punch. A uppercut come hook into pit of Chaves.

Down again in next round. It's over. Thurman is WBA Interim Champion.

 

I like Thurman but think he's got a bit to develop before taking on the best of the division. Him vs Broner though is a fight i'd love to see.
