Duran is Panamanian and ranks in most people's top 10, even top 5's at times, that excuse is ridiculous.

Yeah I love him because hes a reference point for us Pinoys...that we have been fighting for a long long time..before Mexicanos, Boriquas came to the scene..we had a bonafide star who packed the polo grounds in the 20's...died at 24. Just think of that... a freakin islander treaded like a ****** in some parts in those times and to be so famous and well respected by the greats Dempsey included...that gives you a perspective how good he was.

When you see these fighters being developed in the islands now..this aint an anomaly..boxing was dead for 30 years or so but its now back..now theres thousands of young fighters starting to take it up and its just a matter of time when champions are produced

I remember hearing a story about how Filipinos origingated the "fists-up" style of fighting after the Spanish-American war when America was colonizing the Philippines.

Well, generally, fighters fought a lot more back then, therefore had deeper resumes and greater accomplishments. In the 22 fighters I named above, 11 of them fought the majority of their career pre-50's, while 15 had fought any portion pre-50's. It's all about how you view things. If you do it on an era by era basis, taking into consideration conditions, you could end up with a different looking list. If you base it purely on head to head ability, you'll find more modern fighters for the most part. I personally base it mostly on accomplishments/resume combined with your dominance/in ring performance. Sure there are a few inconsistencies, nobody's perfect.

Some call that a myth.. but thats another topic...

To give you an idea, when Villa fought the great Jimmy Wilde(the greatest flyweight ever and constant atg top 10p4p) at the Polo grounds in NY.. people were chanting Villa!, Villa!, Villa!... now think about that and put it in perspective

Chavez is definitley top 10 if he isnt then who? Most of the old timers we never kept up with, just cause their old school and are part of history? Chavez is argubly top 5 definitley top 10. Ive seen old videos but its not the same as growing up watching a fighter

If Chavez is top 5 then Pernell must be top 2... is that the truth?..You claim you grew up watching fighters..surely you must have known that Whitaker is a better fighter flat out.

Yeh its all subjective. People freak out over this stuff but everyone has their own list for their own reasons. I love Hagler and have him higher than most other people....so sue me :D
