I am a huge Chavez Jr fan as a few of you may know. Im thrilled he got himself in great shape for the Vera rematch and I was particularly excited as to how he mixed up his shots, inside and out, with and without the mustard He looked like a bonafide SMW star in there. Much better than either Steiglitz or Abe looked in their matchup, and to be perfectly honest, much better than either Froch or Groves looked in their first fight. Granted, Vera isnt exactly a world beater. Much the same as an Andy Lee or a Darren Barker type. He's solid, got good skills, a huge heart, a solid beard, but keeping it real, he was a midget in this fight. Jr looked to outweigh him by 20lbs in there. Now, we all saw JR speak in plain English that he wants MW Champion GGG next. That would be a great fight and a great win for either guy. But what does it profit either at this point. Is JR going to drain down to 160 for the MW title? Is GGG going to take a CW and make a non defense of his title? If these guys were just contenders, I'd be thrilled to see em go at it at 164. But GGG is the 160 Champ. And JR has MUCH more LUCRATIVE possibilities at 168. Here's how I see it...... JR has in front of him 3 very real and winnable fights. Sakio Bika is the reigning WBC titleholder. I see Jr estabilshing his inside dominance and KOing Bika late in a closish fight. Obviously, the WBC would grant Chavez Jr this fight, and financially, Bika aint getting a bigger payday. Carl Froch should win his rematch with GG rather comfortably. He's always performed slightly better in his rematches, and I think GG overperformed early in their fight and caught Froch underestimating his abilities. I think that if JR could get a stay busy fight, against the likes of Alexander Brand, Peter Manfredo Jr, or maybe even Johny Gonzalez, he could build his resume and force a Froch fight late in the year. And IMO, JR would walk Froch down and KHO. Froch has a great chin, but he relies on seeing shots to take them. JR mixes his punches very well, and especially on the inside, his up and down approach would present problems for Froch. Then there's Abe......he's won the rubber match with Steiglitz and is supposed to keep that WBO title hidden somewhere in the EU. But Arum must certainly have deeper pockets than Sauerland, and being that Jr is #2 in their rankings behind only DeGale....I could Arum forcing this fight on Sauerland. We havent seen the best JCC Jr yet, but IMO, a fight with Abe would certainly bring him out. The slow starting Abraham would be a sitting duck for the beast that is Chavez Jr.......it would be a slaughter while it lasted with JR blasting Abe out in brutal fashion. So......while it is certainly career and legacy building for JR to go for GGG....I think he'd be better suited to sticking to SMW where he'd become the CLEAR #2 behind Ward.....and IMO...with the experience any one or two of these 3 fights bring........I think JR could be the MAN to beat the man at SMW. Anyone else on the JR SMW Champion Bandwagon......all aboard.thumbsup:thumbsup
def. wont fight abraham.....no-one knows him in usa and abraham gets 2 mil to fight in germany......he wont come to usa could fight pascal - good style match-up for action fight
Well, he won't beat Ward, although it would be a great payout for Andre. I doubt his handlers will let that happen. AA would be a barn-burner, bombs away last man standing. I think Steiglitz would be a solid fight. Kessler would sell anywhere. Bika, Anthony Dirrell, plenty of options really. That is, not counting the GBP -Top Rank cr@pola.
Kessler, Stieglitz and Abraham are not coming to the US to fight Junior or Ward. Bika and Dirrell fight on Showtime. Froch, regardless of the outcome of the Groves II fight, is the only guy I see as a viable option for a US fight. Froch-Chavez Jr has already been discussed by the key players.
Your living in the clouds if you think JR has any chance vs Froch Groves winner, Ward lol even more one sided then Martinez fight, I honestly think Bika beats him aswell, ask yourself honestly do you think Vera would have gone the distance with Froch, GGG, Groves, Ward. IMO no chance bar maybe Ward who would win every round vs Vera. Chavez JR is **** heard this sort of talk after he beat LEE, how he would be to big strong ect for Martinez, look how one sided that was now think he won't have the size or strength advantages at 168 if anything he will be beaten even worse, he is seen as any easy big payday by the top guys at 168.
Chavez was lucky Vera busted his hand early in their fight, I was expecting more out of Chavez than we seen in that fight. He's not beating Froch or Bika like he is, even in shape. If Vera had actual SMW power, Chavez's face might've been swollen shut. He could be developed into a really major star if he was just committed to the sport, but as is I can understand why Arum would look to cash him out on a Froch/Golovkin fight. In the meantime let him beat up a Don George caliber fighter.
"After Sergio beats Cotto, I want him to give me the rematch at 160 lbs." said Chavez after the Vera fight before mentioning GGG.
To the OP, if you're serious I think you're letting your bias get the better of you. The only Super Middleweight champion that Jr has a genuine decent shot against right now is AA, because AA is short and rarely busy, and that's if Jr fights a more disciplined fight than we've seen from him in some time. The move to Super Middleweight takes away a lot of the advantages Chavez Jr had at Middleweight, principally, the length advantage and the ability to take shots. We have yet to see Chavez Jr get tagged by a real Super Middleweight puncher(Vera is not even a Middleweight puncher, much less Super Middle) and we all know no matter who he fights, he will get tagged a lot, because his defense is terrible. To some extent, his sheer size and length protected him at Middleweight, but against most of the better Super Middleweights, Jr will be in the target zone at all times. And Jr himself is not a huge puncher. He's no light hitter either but even at Middleweight he had a lot of fights go the distance. That hurts him in exchanges with the biggest hitters at Super Middleweight. So, basically, if he fights a smart fight against AA, he can pick up a belt there. Otherwise, he needs to wait until the division gets weaker before making a move.
Chavez, Jr. will not be able to make 168 for long. He is a light heavyweight - cruiserweight..................... Chavez throws one punch at a time and is easy to hit.
Wrong Farmy.... Chavez Jr is at the RIGHT weight and he looks great at it. As for throwing 1 at a time....wrong again.....rewatch tape of both the Vera fights.....he's throwing 3 punch combos up and down on the inside, and mixing up the jab and hook with the 1-2 from the outside. He's also varying his delivery, which is key to success at the highest level. He's looking much like a young Carl Froch about now.....and just IMHO......that's a young American fighter we can most all get behind.:thumbsup
