Chavez jr career discussion

I think that Julio Caesar Chavez Jr could have been a good fighter, working himself into a great fighter someday if the heart and desire are there. The last name does not automatically make him a great fighter, it could open doors, but the rest would have to be up to him, His legendary father had to do it the hard way. It would be as if his daddy gave him the keys to the car, he would not appreciate the car, he would not take care of it, because he did not have to buy it. Junior could have enlisted a good trainer and corner to make sure that he is in top condition before each match. He could have been brought up slowly as papa was, before stardom. He suffered the wrath of a fast life, without proper guidance. He was spoiled, as you can see the disgust in Sr's face while attending his son's fights. I think that it is too late in the game for Junior.

 

Agree totally. There was a progression to his evolvement early in his career, but the
fact that he was the son of a Legend and with that came special treatment I think hindered his progression as a fighter.
The money, fame, and everything that comes with it came to quickly that he couldn't manage it.

There are two ways fighters evolve to get better.
1. You're hungry to fight for the paydays.
or
2. You love the sport and have a burning desire to prove yourself as a boxer.

Chavez Jr. never had either.

Do you guys think that Chavez Jr. should hang them up or continue to fight?

 

He's convinced Jacobs only won because of fouls and as long as promoters continue to offer him the paydays he's had, he's going to keep going.
Have no idea why it bothers fans that Jr. continues. Don't buy tickets and don't tune in, its that simple.

 

It won't bother me if he continues, but it seems to me that he has no future in boxing sport at the moment.

 

The promoter hypes him up, the fans fall for it every time.
He beats a top 10 opponent and he's back in the mix, its how boxing works nowdays.

 

I want him to keep fighting because he still has a plenty of time to improve and change his misbehaviours. He will have to have disciplines if he wants to make a great comeback.

 

He's nearing his mid 30's, so he doesn't have a whole lot of time.

I'll root for him because he's the son of the Legend who was one of my favorites, but I'm a realist.
Chavez Jr. is mentally weak, that is clear as day.

 

At the very beginning of his career he was well protected and he fought mostly with no name fighters to keep his perfect record. At that time, I thought that he could become as great as his father Chavez Sr. However, after he got beaten by Martinez things had changed a lot. It seemed his father could not lead or control his son to be a great fighter anymore.

 

Disappointed. Chavez Jr was going to get dropped soon so that's why he decided to quit in the corner.
