Chavez JR changes mind about Roach. Chavez SR to be his new trainer.

Guess it's really gonna be down to Jr. Its a bit late for pops to slap some spine into him now, it's there or it isn't. It wouldn't surprise me if he tries it for a few weeks, then cracks and fvcks it off though. If he has the discipline to drag himself through a proper camp he should get past Vera, but beyond that it's hard to say.

If he's gonna take boxing seriously though he's gonna have to keep in better trim between fights, and settle in a division that he can make more comfortably, 'cos he ain't gonna be able to keep ballooning 25lbs for ever.

 

its not a bad move.

theres 2 options. if hes not ur trainer then u cant let him in ur camps becuz he is going to try n be the trainer. he will be stepping all over the toes of the actual trainer. sr cant control his emotions and speaks his heart.

other options u just let him b ur trainer. which just might work. its either all or nothing.

 

He did. Then Daddy came out swinging his belt and Jr. quickly changed his tune.

 

So how is Sr going to enforce this discipline? What can Sr do to him that is going to make him focus and more discipline?

 

If he can instill discipline and don´t let Jr make the decisions in camp it could work Jr needs to grow up stop acting like a spoiled kid and be profesional

 

I keep seeing post on Sr installing discipline. How exactly do you do that to a guy who isn't motivated, doesn't like training, no work ethic, and party heavily leading up to a big fight.

WTF is Sr going to do to install this discipline? Ground him?

 

I hate to say it but I'd have to agree with this. The one positive is that Jr. will definitely work his ass off for his Dad so fitness should be a non-issue. Roach's mitt work and boxing IQ will obviously be missed though...

 

Roach, boxing IQ?

Chavez Sr's boxing IQ is eons above that of Roach's.

For any of you that know spanish and have seen Chavez behind a microphone, he wears his emotions on his sleeve, but he's great at depicting whats happening and what can and is likely to happen.
These traits are great assets to a trainer.

When Marquez got badly stunned by Pacquiao in round 5 of their last fight, Chavez mentioned seconds after, "Marquez is standing still, he cant do that against Pacquiao."
Early in round 6 Pacquiao continued to get the better of Marquez, riding his punishment of round 5, at the midpoint Chavez noted, " Marquez is throwing and landing with heavy shots, the hardest I've seen him throw, if Pacquiao gets careless, he can go that route!" Meaning Pacquiao could get knocked out.
Before the round ended, Marquez had stunned the world.
Chavez had noted halfway through the round the mustard Marquez was carring in his shots still in round 6, he anticipated what could happen and it happened.

No question Chavez Sr. has a good eye for the happenings in a boxing ring. Those types of eyes are much needed in Jr's corner.


Also of note is my disapointment that Roach never developed Jr's jab.
A fighter of Jr's height and reach needs to use it, hopefully Sr. can get that through Jr's mindset.

 

I agree with you that the move to Sr. could be good for Jr. but you're seriously underestimating Freddie's abilities as a trainer.

 

Believe me I'm not. Roach is a proven trainer, he may very well be better at teaching than Sr. could be, but you said Roach's Ring IQ would be missed as if somehow Roach knows more boxing than Chavez Sr.
Thats what made me laugh.

No question in my mind Chavez Sr. has a better boxing mind than Freddie Roach.
Roach learned from the best as far as how to go about getting his points across and actually training fighters, and I'm talking about the great Eddie Futch.

 

can you quantitatively prove that sr's. ring iq is more than roach??
