If Chavez turns back the clock to his Andy lee days he could very well beat Canelo into submission. Canelo is the better fighter But Chavez has a solid weight division more advantage. It will be interesting to see if Chavez has enough stamina after the weight cut to pressure Canelo and what Canelo does against a pressure fighter who he can't hurt.
I think you should be asking Canelo and Oscar that question, because I think they naively believe Chavez Jr. will be a walk in the park.
I agree with the OP. Chavez is a very tough dudeand even though Canelo outskills him, ginger is going to be the smaller, weaker guy here. This could be the acid test for Canelo. Was Alvarez successful because he was a master at cutting weight? Or is he a legit top shelf fighter? You know what, I'm going out on a limb and saying Chavez gets outboxed early, but wears Saul down for a big late rally.
Calling Chavez Jr a cherry pick is laughable. Chavez Jr is a very difficult fight for anyone, especially for a Jr Middleweight. For Canelo to fight a guy two weight classes above his to take on a guy like Chavez Jr shows that Canelo is not looking for easy fights, but looking for major challenges.
This fight wreaks of Margarito/Cotto 1. It could play out like that fight did with Canelo playing the role of Cotto. I believe if Canelo wins the fight in dominating fashion he will be confident enough to get in against GGG. If he struggles in a close tough fight the GGG fight will be delayed for atleast a year. If he just flat out loses by ko because no way he loses a decision then there is no way the GGG fights happens anytime soon if at all. This fight will be interesting as it has major implications depending on the outcome. Ronda Rousy got destroyed lol!
A few years ago maybe,ever since he quit against Fonfara he's been so hard work for everyone and his trainers,that said I'd never call him a cherry pick
