Moreso if you consider he has shoddy work ethic and zero amateur experience and he still has beaten big names that have dedicated their lives to boxing to do something like that you need serious raw talent / physical gifts
I rate him as the 3rd best Middleweight in the world behind Marinez & Golovkin I would favour Chavez against Geale, Quillin, Macklin & Sturm...
To be honest he has a shot against any MW in the world. I wouldn't count him out against Sergio in a rematch or against GGG as long as he can make weight. I do think though that his days at 160 are finished.
When it comes to Chavez Jr there is the good, the bad, and the ugly. Lets start with the good: Sine his debut he has shown incredible learning curve and room for improvement. A lot of people had Duddy as his first real opponent and Chavez won a shut out ( I had him winning 11 rounds). The zbik fight showed again that he was now at that top tier of 160. Taking Rubio and Lee then confirmed his status as a legitimate top 10 middleweight. Or did it? Now we get to the UGLY - I think Chavez represents a lot of what is wrong with Boxing. We know for a fact he is a known subtances cheat from his earlier days. It was also a disgrace that Matinez was stripped of his belt and Chavez Vs Zbik was contesting that belt. The decision in the fight was also questionable as was Chavez size difference in the ring. There was smoke during the Rubio fight when Chavez was not even asked to provide a urine sample in Texas. It is the blame of the comission but still it was another series of coincedences that failed to validate his weight gain methods. Then you have the Lee fight where another complaint is raised by Sugar Hill who claims Chavez urine test was done with several of his team around him rather than being 1 on 1 with the doctor. Lee gave his sample 1 on 1 to the doctor with nobody else in the room but again perhaps this was the fault of the commission. A smaller ring was placed in the conrtact to favour Chavez Jr. Now we get to the Martinez fight, and yet again there is contraversy around his post fight drugs test. During the fight we see the Bad, the fact that he has no skill, but we also see the good- for a start, nobody would have placed him in the ring with Martinez 3 years earlier, let alone knocking Martinez down. And he did show great heart to come back in that 12 round. But then we return to the ugly - his post fight drugs test. Cannabis is not a known performance enhancing drugh but there are smoke signals again. In an ideal world, I would like to think that Chavez Jr would sign up to VADA/WADA Donaire style to erase any future doubt that the neutral fans may have. But this is boxing.
From what we've seen in 24/7 I understand that one could get the impression that Jr is lazy. But keep in mind that he was born rich. Lots of fighter grew up poor and that's what motivated them to fight. But for someone from the upperclass to step up in the ring, and doing as well as he has; Proves that he has heart, talent, and love for the sport. You have to give him credit in his last fight, he was getting beat badly and he could've quit but he didn't. Also, I don't quite understand when people say that the reason he is successful is because of his father. Your last name can't protect you from getting knocked out.
After well over a year of deriding El Dinero De Vaca as a joke and a complete bum, Martinez's fans were sure quick to change their tune about jewnior after the fight. This content is protected "He who laughs last, laughs the loudest." - Julio Cesar 'El Dinero De Vaca' Chavez Jr. (a totally original, profound quote, I might add.)
