Chavez is currently ranked No. 4 in the 154 pound division by the World Boxing Council behind a record of 38-0-1, 29 knockouts. De La Hoya beat the father of Chavez twice and there has been bad blood between Chavez and “The Golden Boy” since then.

De La Hoya beat Chavez by a 4th round TKO at Cesars Palace in Las Vegas on June 7, 1996 in a WBC welterweight title fight and in a rematch De La Hoya won by an 8th round TKO on September 18, 1998.

According to several media reports in Mexico and Puerto Rico , a Del Hoya fight against Chavez Jr, “The son of the Legend” is a possibility with the fight likely to be held if it happens at all, in May 2009. The venue mentioned is the Azteca Stadium in Mexico Coty which holds 100,000 fans.

Following his one-sided his eight round beating at the hands of Filipino ring sensation Manny Pacquiao last December 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas , Arum said “I don’t know whether Oscar is going to fight again or not.”

Arum went on, “its completely and obviously up to them. As far as Chavez is concerned we’ll have him back in the ring in March and

Sad to say I doubt Oscar would win that fight, he is comming off of a pretty embarrasing loss here I think his last fight took it out of him his body might be better prepaired for it due to the higher weight but DLHs heart is just not going to be in the fight.

DLH is caught in the same situation that he was for Pac if he takes the Chavez Jr. fight, a no win situation.

If he'd have beat Pac, he beat a former bantamweight.

If he beats Chavez Jr., he picked on a fighter not ready to step up to that level.

......and if he loses, just like in the Pac fight, he's disgraced!

He can do it for the money he does'nt need.......but legacy wise, DLH would be a complete idiot to take the fight!

DLH would better be served legacy wise to go out getting KTFO by Antonio Margarito moving up to 154 lbs, than to win against Chavez Jr.

DLH is in desperate need of a win. Before he entered the ring with Pac he was regarded as past his prime but not by much, beat Steve Forbes and narrowly lost to Floyd Mayweather p4p #1. Now he is regarded as a shot fighter. He needs a win and Chavez is an exellent opponent that will get him that win plus make him lots of $. Then after that he can think of Margarito, Cotto, Hatton ect.

154 is perfect for Oscar at this stage & I dont think JCC jr is a patch on his dad talent wise but of course, I will be rooting for the young Chavez to administer a great deal of pain on DLH, I could see that situation making me very happy.
