Fleaman, nice point on the Nacho issue......for the cardio work alone, Nacho would be ideal for Chavez Jr.......but then its not only that, Jr. is still young enough that he can hone Jrs. skills..... The one thing about Jr. currently is that he fights too much with the style of his father...... .....this last fight with Vanda was slightly a change from that.....alot more disciplined boxing and jabbing. Jr. has the size for it, and he needs to rely more on the jab to set up everything else he does offensively. Believe me however, Jr. will not step up in class, unless he's ready.....last year around this time, Jr. was talking about a Baldomir fight.......that never materialized simply because his team knew he was'nt ready for that. ......same as they wont go after Forrest this year. My thinking is that they'll begin fighting top 20-30 fighters in 2009, and assuming he passes the test on those, then likely they'll position Jr. for a title shot late 2010. I hear you Fleaman, on the hunger issue.......Jr. is making money as it stands right now.......having it, certainly makes it harder to get up in the morning to do roadwork. Hopefully his head is firmly on his shoulders that he knows that the road to the contrary will spell disaster. No doubt about it, Jr. would benefit greatly by participating in a venture of seclusion, with one of the Marquez brothers to train in the Otomi mountains! Btw, Fleaman, that pretty good figher in your avatar would be ideal to train Chavez Jr......get him to fight a little bit taller, and work everything off the jab.
Forrest should try to get this signed like a MOFO, as on his own, he would have a hard time drawing 5 flies to a pile of warm dog****. :good
Yeah. He went straight to pro right? No surprise he's fighting alot of lower echelon guys to gain experience. With the connections he has from his pops, why fight a bunch of amateur fights for free when he can be makin' bucks and honing his craft simultaneously? Having said that, I won't purchase any PPV w/him as headliner until he starts being competitive at a much higher level.
Chavez won't be facing top competition anytime soon. 1-he's not ready and 2-he is making money for he and Arum doing just what he's been doing. Chavez, obviously, doesn't appear to be a pfp type fighter but he probably hasn't hit his cieling either. He had a couple amatuer fights so he has a lot to learn and is learning in the pros instead. With his name, following, undefeated record, and activity level you can count on Chavez landing some big fights in a year or two. If he fought Forrest now that would be ugly. Forrest would hurt him. As for a Chavez-Hearns fight that would be interesting. I would make Hearns a favorite but it would be a very good fight. Thats a possible fight that should be made in a couple years. Build their names and records up and throw in a belt then you have something interesting.
