Sergio's best assets are Canelo's biggest weaknesses.
Stylistically, he's all wrong for Canelo,
Sergio is a speedster that doesn't stop moving and throws
hooks and straight lefts down the pipe, Sergio's head and upper
body movement are comparable to Canelo's and that's where it
ends. Handspeed and footspeed it's not even close. Canelo has to plant
to throw in combination and Sergio has won firefights with guys that
are quicker and physically stronger than Canelo.

I see no conceivable way that Canelo outboxes or wins a slugfest
    with Sergio.

Well, what's sure is that canelo put a bigger beating on him than sergio did.

I suppose jr wrote this words in the interview, I dont think he's able to talk after the beating canelo put on him on the fight.

Canelo vs sergio would be like canelo vs kirkland. Canelo would eat sergio's left hand on purpose in order to land his own right hand. So it would be powerhit after powerhit, until one of them cracks, or starts to respect too much the other and gives the fight up. Sergio has a lot of qualities, but the chin was not one of them, he had normal/average chin, so I would favour canelo. Would have been an interesting fight, it's a pitty we will never watch it.

Had nothing to do with his reflexes. What ended his career was the knee injury he suffered in the Chavez fight. If that doesnt happen Sergio wouldve reigned atop the jrmw/mw division for a couple more years. That dude was special.

    Canelo better than Martinez?

I've officially seen it all. Thanks, ESB forum.

    Martinez would have schooled him.

    Two different levels of fighter.

Martinez was much more athletic and talented.

It is hardly debatable that prime Martinez was a better fighter than Canelo. At the same time, however, prime Martinez had probably everything to beat GGG as well. In the last ~17 years of the MW divison, B-Hop, Martinez and GGG is the proper order to keep in mind. What a prime Pavlik or Taylor would have been capable of against Canelo or GGG is hard to tell.

Martinez would beat Canelo, I would heavily favour him. Canelo has fought against welters his entire career.

Jr didnt even face a prime Sergio either.

That being said... I dont think the gap is very wide. Canelo is becoming a beast right now.

    Yes, agree.

Sergio was a master in the ring, at a level Canelo could never be at.

It's just two different sets of physical characteristics.

On the other hand, Canelo is more a bully than Martinez is. He's just stockier, thicker.

Martinez would school Canelo if they fought.
