Lee is ranked #6 in the world at MW and looking good, meanwhile chavez steam rolled him a few years back. I think chavez jr would stop martinez in a rematch if he doesn't retire.
I thinking the exact same thing the other day, I was actually going to do a thread on it, I still might.
No it doesn't. Lee had started to outbox Chavez until he got hurt, just as both Jackson and Korobov had started to outbox Lee until they got caught. Korobov >>> Jackson > Lee > Chavez, in terms of skill.
Yep, a come-from-behind ko against an unproven Middleweight (with an admittedly excellent amateur record) and a ko against a nobody where he was struggling certainly makes Chavez looks like a killer. He should probably just retire and hope Zbik and Vera rattle off a couple of good victories so his legacy is enhanced even further.
Chavez is being very underrated, because he's a fat unmotivated pothead who doesn't take the sport seriously, but when he tries he's damn good, while not greatly skilled. I can't be the only one who noticed his defensive adjustments in the second Vera fight, he was constantly doing little things to take the sting off of the punches, subtle head movements, stepping just out of range, he showed some improvements, and then he doesn't fight for another year.:-( He's very frustrating. Chavez would probably stop Matvey and Jackson as well.
His win was questionable though as he doesn't play fair. He came into the (tiny) ring like a lightheavyweight and had his entourage in the bathroom while giving his urine sample. Wasn't there some controversy about his gloves too? Also Lee was taking rounds off him before being stopped due to not having the strenght or stamina to keep the fat **** him off. Due to these factors I don't think it looks that good for jr.
Chavez put on over 20 lbs and refused drug testing after the fight against a lanky dude who makes 154 without an issue. How much extra credit should he get? Maybe if he'd won by using superior skill I could see it, but he was getting outboxed and relied on the size advantage for the win.
exactly, lets see if he can beat the snot of GGG. Or ward then we will see how good chavez jr, not 20lb weight difference.
