Both had no amatuer fights and are sons of boxing legends. Both entered the pros with high expectations, except Chavez Jr is going to fight his 38th professional fights...and Wilfredo Vasquez Jr in only his 13th pro bout and will fight for the WBO latino superbantamweight title. Mind you not a major title but stepping up none the less. At Chavez's 13th fight he fought an absolute nobody who's record was 5-5. Now the excuse used over and over again by the Chavez Jr apologists are that Chavez Jr should not be criticized because he never fought as an amatuer...but Vasquez Jr like JCC jr never fought as an amatuer and he already stepping up...so why are we giving JCC jr a pass? Obviously, pedigree means alot because they both can learn things from their fathers that the normal novice fighter will never have access to. Vasquez JR doesn't use his lack of amatuer experience as a crutch or an excuse to continue fighting subpar competition...and Chavez Jr shouldn't either. Check out the Vasquez Jr interview.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Unbeaten Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (12-0-1, 10 KOs) goes for his first title when he takes on veteran Adolfo Landeros (20-10-1, 9 KOs) for the vacant WBO Latino super bantamweight title this Friday. The bout which is scheduled for twelve rounds will take place at the Civic Center in Kissimmee, Florida and televised on Telemundo. Tuto Zabala Jr's All Star boxing is the promoter for the event. Fightnews spoke with Vazquez regarding being son of a legendary former world champion, what he knows about his opponent, and fighting for his first title.

Your last fight ended in some strange circumstances when your opponent was disqualified. What happened in there?

Basically I was fighting my fight as always and things got a little heated. Ultimately he was disqualified for excessively fighting after the bell. I had knocked him down moments before that so I feel I was on my way to victory.

Your father Wilfredo Vazquez Sr. was and still is very well known boxer in Puerto Rico for his accomplishments as a world champion. Do you feel pressured to live up to those expectations?

Honestly I don't feel pressured at all. I actually embrace the challenge and hope to establish a name with my own accomplishments.

I understand that you had a very limited amateur career is that correct?

It was a little bit more that limited. I had no amateur fights at all.

With that being said, why do you think you have been successful so far?

A lot of has to attributed to my conditioning. I train extremely hard. I'm always at or near my fighting weight well before the fight. My promoter Tuto Zabala has put in me in with a solid mix of competition so that I can continue to progress correctly.

What do you know about your opponent Landeros?

I know he is a very tough Mexican fighter who beat undefeated prospect Alejandro Perez in his last fight, went the distance with former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez, and that he has never been knocked out. On that alone I know that I have to be extremely prepared as this is my toughest fight thus far in my career.

Does it make this fight even more significant that it is your first title fight? (vacant WBO Latino super bantamweight title)

Definitely because winning this title positions me in the world title rankings.

Many mexicans here on ESB feel that JCC jr should not be criticized for not stepping up. they continue to use his lack of amatuer experience as an excuse....except Mexican legend...he's a smart dude.:good

Lets put it this way: THe last 3 fights of JCC jr have been
Jose Celaya 31-3-0: A very good boxer and somewhat known
    Tobia Loriga: 24-0-1: Undefeated italian
Matt Vanda: 38-7-0: A fight JCC jr could have lost but a better opponent than anyone on Vazquez' resume.

    Vazquez:
    Corey Goodwin: 7-4-0:
Moises Carrasquillo 2-0-0: ???? Yeah big improvement
    Felipe Almazan: 12-13-2:

AND his next opponent (for a "title") has a record of: 20(9)-10(0)-1
The only crowning achievment besides that BS title this guys has is that he has never been KOd

Obviously Chavez Jr. has stepped up his opposition level in his last few fights, and he's begun to get tested.....

.....Chavez Jr. gassed in his last fight vs Vanda, so thats going to be a learning experience for him.....this is exactly what Jr. needs to better himself......how he prepares himself after the Vanda experience, will be of importance in Jrs continued development.

The fact that he gassed vs Vanda, and it was competitive all the way through, shows that they're bringing Chavez up properly at his level.

How someone can say that he's getting a free pass is beyond me.

I think what some people on this board are bothered over is that Chavez Jr. headlines PPV cards.....

.....Newsflash, dont buy them if you dont think he's worth it, obviously Jr. has a fanbase where Top Rank has chose to headline Jr. in main events......if the fanbase is there, why not headline him in such events?

As for anyone that doe'snt like it, stop complaining and dont watch!

once again...you're looking at JCC jr last 3 fights....36-37-38....vasquez is only on his 13th pro fight...but your comment serves as an example how you can criticize a fighter who only had 12 fights....but blatantly overlook Chavez JR 38 bull**** fights...thank you for proving my theory.:yep
