How does one plod forward and land little but cuffing, slapping blows and actually "outbox" an opponent? That wasn't even what Vera was trying to do, yet you're crediting him for it, anyway. He won the first two rounds based on clean, effective punching - ya know, the most important part of the scoring criteria.
Those little, cuffing blows eventually closed his foe's right eye. And he landed enough of them in the second round to more than offset the occasional clean shot that Chavez landed. Effective aggression and ring generalship are also scoring criteria for scoring and Vera certainly had an edge in those categories in the second- and indeed throughout much of the fight. 96-94 Vera was my score.
Effective aggression isn't plodding forward and following your opponent in circles; as a pressure fighter, your job is to cut the ring off and limiting your opponents options- and Vera failed in that. Whenever he was close, he was never able to mount a truly productive attack. The single most important criteria in boxing is clean and effective punching, and Vera was absolutely hopeless in that category.
Veras skull rubbing on JRs brows and cheeks caused most the swelling. I agree Vera did well in there and was only doing what the ref allowed him to, but be real.......his punches had little to no effect on Chavez.:nono
They slowed him down to a near crawl by the end, and enough of those punches landed on Chavez to cause swelling. There wasn't nearly as much in the way of head contact as JCCJ supporters would like to have others think. :bart
if it wasn't clean effective punching, why was Jr's head snapping back so often? Vera might not have had the power to hurt him, but he marked him up just as nicely as Sergio did a year ago
This whole set up was to embarrass Vera, the weight changed several times, and yet JR CHEESEBURGER was the one to look foolish:rofl Vera went from a B plus boxer/ brawler to an A class boxer in my view and JR went to ****:rofl:shock: :smoke
I scored the fight a draw. It felt like Vera won at the end but I still had it 5-5. That was a good fight, I wasn't overly excited about it and figured Chavez would end up wearing down and stopping Vera but it was much better than I anticipated. I think Chavez clealry overlooked Vera and obviously under trained for it. I'd like to see a rematch but I can't see it happening, Chavez will move onto bigger things.
i scored it a draw...it could of went either way but the 8 rds for chavez is criminal and fixed n everyone knows.
Carla Caiz gave the 9th round to Chavez. That was the clearest round of the fight imo but she had to give it to Chavez or else she would have to score a draw. She gave the last 3 to Chavez btw.
it was a close fight but the scores being so one sided were some of the worst scoring I have seen. Any score where Chavez wins more than 6 rounds is bias and ridiculous. I maybe could agree with a draw or even Chavez winning by a point but 2 of the judges had Chavez dominating in a fight that he was cleaRLT OUTWORKED AND OUTLANDED. The only way 1 good punch cancels out 10 good punches is if the 1 punch puts the guy down. Like round 7 Chavez got beat to the punch for 2:45 and landed one good shot that did hurt Vera but so what. Vera took the punch and kept coming forward.
