Chavez is essentially a Super Middleweight using diuretics to cut down to middleweight. He has already failed one test for the diuretic Furosemide, which can help you increase your urination to 6 litres per day. He has subsequently fought once without any testing at all, and then had complaints made about his most recent fight where there were reportedly 6 people in the bathroom with him while he took a urine test. He routinely rehydrates 20lbs after the weigh in and would most likely outweigh Froch on fight night by 7-8 lbs. This content is protected Completely unrelated, his promoter Bob Arum has no stake in the 168lbs division, and it's a division stacked with tough, quality fighters who would command big purses. This content is protected I'm not saying the two have anything to do with each other. I'm just saying . . . With that in mind, how do you see him fair versus the following fighters: Carl Froch Mikkel Kessler Lucian Bute Andre Ward Andre Dirrell George Groves James Degale Feel free to add more. My predictions: - Froch adopts Chavez and becomes his new Daddy. - Kessler beats him like he caught him peeking at his mother. - Bute scalps him and uses his hair as a wig. - Ward clowns him so bad they take Chavez Snr out the hall of fame. Even Dirrel goes 12 rounds without throwing himself to the floor
His major asset is his strength and will to win, moving up to meet these guys i can't see him being anywhere near as effective as he is at 160lbs. His technical side of game is improving but not enough to live with these guys. I take all of the guys who operate currently at world level beat him , Kessler and Bute i think he could run close due to Mikkel's decline and Bute's fragility. Lucien may never be the same after that night in Nottingham. I'd still feel they'd beat him with there better skills.
I think he'd trouble Groves and DeGale btw, Although DeGale would relish Chavez Jnr coming forward he still hasn't found his true identity as a defensive fighter. Seems to chop and change techniques far to much for my liking. Can't be thinking when under severe pressure you have to be reactive. I could see Chavez taking some to give some and creating real problems for DeGale. Late stoppage for Chavez at this point. Groves wouldn't relish the pressure, I think the short range work of Chavez would stop Groves around midway point. If Groves fought more centre ring then he could turn Chavez onto shots and really trouble him but the Booth formula wouldn't work for me in this one..
