Next Chavez Jr. foe named!
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs. Michele Orlando of Italy on 'Latin Fury' April 26
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will take on rugged Michele Orlando of Palermo, Italy, on Top Rank's "Latin Fury" championship boxing card in Queretaro, Mexico on Saturday, April 26. Orlando, 35-5 with 18 KOs, has been in 16 title fights -- 8 for an Italian title, 4 IBF International, 2 European, 1 WBC International and 1 WBA Continental. Orlando is 10-5-1 in title bouts and he has won his last five bouts. "I am very excited about this matchup," said Bob Arum of Top Rank. "We will see how Julio fares against a fighter who has such tremendous international experience." Chavez Jr. vs. Orlando is scheduled for 10 rounds in the super welterweight division. The fight will headline Top Rank's "Latin Fury" card which will be available on Pay Per View. Arum said the televised undercard bouts will soon be announced. Chavez Jr., the son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, lives and trains in Culiacan, Mexico. Chavez Jr. has a record of 35-0-1, 28 KOs. He is coming off two very tough physical "Latin Fury" battles, first against Ray Sanchez (TKO 6) in Albuquerque, N.M. and then against Jose Celaya (TKO 8) in Leon, Mexico.

I've never seen Orlando, that I can recall.

But Trabant winning by knockout:yikes

Unless theres some sort of story behind that one then that's not a good sign.

On paper he sure doesn't look like a ppv headliner to me.

This is exactly the type of opponent that Top Rank is looking for.

He has a good record, he's willing to go to Mexico to fight JCC, Jr., and he's going to get taken out in brutal fashion ... Perfect! LOL

They arent catering to every fan when they put on these shows. They are looking for Latino's who are loyal to the name Julio Cesar Chavez.

Not to mention that by picking Orlando, there is probably some Italian TV money coming back to them so that they can air the bout live over there as well.

They only need like 70,000 buys to start making money on these and they have more than hit the mark on the first two shows.

Expect a few more of these before JCC, Jr. takes a major step up in class.

Chavez Jr. is so famous because of his name. His promoters are afraid that if they put him against someone who can actually fight, he'll lose and all of a sudden he goes from national icon to cruel loser (Mexicans are harsh sportsman). He's been on PPV more times then actual Champions. RIDICULOUS!!!

Chavezs team are a bunch of idiots, if his dumb ass management and his drunk ass father knew what was best for junior they wouldnt have made him turn pro at such an early age, he could have racked a few dozen wins as an amature. The kid is more of a brawler/puncher then a boxer, he's going to get his head boxed off,

Good points. If you complain about this being ppv, and it is a horrible PPV headliner, than its not aimed at you. There is obviously a loyal market who are JCC jr fans and come out to support him. Not too different than 100,000 fans paying to see a football game between Ohio State against Kent State or Toledo. You obviously know who's going to win but people still show up to supporot "their team" or in JCC jr's case, "their" fighter.

These type of cards make sense on a number of fronts...
1-Chavez gets to build a loyal and growing fan base
2-Chavez is staying active and getting some much needed rounds
3-Most importantly, everyone's making money.

I wouldn't be surprised if Arum keeps up these Latin Fury cards with Chavez as the headliner againt c-level opponents until 2009 or even 2010. If people keep buying he'll keep putting them on.

You dont know what the hell youre talking about. Give me an example of when this has happened? Even when Morales quit in the third pacman fight mexicans still supported him against David Diaz.

Saw some highlights. He is getting better, did not think he would make it, but now I think he just might.

The problem with Chavez is that his fight will be PPV and PPV is getting absurd. Too much money, he needs to fight on regular TV so more can see him. Would like to watch his fights live for a change.

How is he getting better? He looked horrible.

The problem with Chavez is that he struggled greatly in his last fight with a C- level opponent and he has no skills. The good thing is that unlike most fighters on his level, he won't need to rely on his success in boxing to make money and put food on the table. At least I hope he doesnt.. I'm sure his father helps him out financially.
