Although I haven't seen Zbik, I'm inclined to be against him getting the opportunity after reading that out of his 30 wins he has only 10 ko's.

If Arum is set on the idea of showcasing Chavez, like you I'd prefer it to be against an action fighter. Dmitry Pirog comes to mind.

I'll take any live boxing on a major network with millions of viewers...even a shitty fight like Chavez-Zbik! :happy

I hear you, but if the fight turns out to be whack, then it just hurts the sport.

I watched the Pac-Cotto PPV with a bunch a casuals and they all were less than receptive to the Chavez-Rowland fight on the undercard. Unless your a fan of his or unless he's matched against a fighter that will make him look good, it's unlikely that Jr. has what it takes to captivate casual fans/first time viewers, which is what the goal should be here.

Arum should put Cotto on CBS. if anyone deserves a network exposure, then its definitely Cotto. Bring on Cotto-Martirosyan or Cotto-Kirkland

Why Chavez? Chavez can be exciting but he can also be a dull fighter. Arum has JuanMa Lopez, Donaire, Gamboa, Margarito. All of them are exciting and would certainly put on a KO performance, wins fans and entice CBS to show more boxing.

chavez jr is overrated and quite boring. cotto vs mayorga would be perfect if a fight were to be on cbs but ah well.

    Yeah, good points.

I'm just anxious to see boxing return to the big lights.

Really, it is absolute bull**** that Cotto-Mayorga is PPV and not CBS.

Just air the awesome but insignificant slugfest (that isn't going to sell extremely well anyway, especially with the fanbase being split by Martinez-Dzinziruk on HBO) on CBS and use it as free advertising for the inaugural Showtime PPV of the decade...an actual seller in Pacquiao-Mosley. :deal

Good and bad. The good a fight on CBS. Bad it's Chavez Jr and Sebastian Zbik. Chavez Jr. is a horrible fighter and he isn't exciting. Sebastian Zbik....who the hell is Zbik?....how do I even pronounce that? (Speaking as a casual fan) who has he fought? Why should I care? All fair questions that need answers. So, having that fight on CBS is bittersweet, I like what Arum is trying to do, but it might be bad execution having this fight on CBS.

You'd have to assume that they'll take the bull by the horns and load the Chavez/Zbik card up? The fight on it's own probably isn't going to be good enough to warrant being on national TV but, it'll do great numbers. I'd like to see a top quality fight on the undercard, something like the final of the bantamweight tourney. That's not possible, I know, but it's the type of bout you'd want for such a huge occasion. The last type such a big fight was on national TV was De La Hoya/Forbes, right? So I'd hope there'd be an undercard worthy of such a huge, rare event and it piques interest in the sport.

    Let me fill you in:

He's a German titlist not named Stieglitz or Braehmer, so...

His style is extra-careful and low-volume.

His last bout was reportedly AWFUL.

Last year there was talk of matching him up with Sergio Mora. That could literally have been the worst boxing match of all time.

His best scalp is Spada, who looks strong but is really quite ordinary (like Giovanni Lorenzo).

Well, at least if anybody stumbles across the thread and doesn't know him they'll see the post and maybe it will save them the woeful experience of checking him out on Youtube.

I dont get the people behind boxing sometimes.

Yes this is great, putting boxing on CBS..... but surely, SURELY, they would know what matches should and shouldnt be put on there, right?

Its really not that hard to figure putting a fight like Cotto vs Mayorga on there would be MASSIVE..... MASSIVE. And more importantly, it would go along way with wanting people to COME BACK AND WATCH AGAIN. That is the key here. To get people talking about boxing in a GOOD way, and having them interested in the next fight and fighters. Put Chavez on the undercard and promote him during the fight as well.

Why in the hell they would stage this fight, or any fight of this calibre, on there is beyond me. Then again this is boxing..... where the dumbest things are often common place.

I don't have an issue with Chavez being on the card because he will bring fans in, especially for a world title shot. The problem is, the chances are, this fight will be terrible and there needs to be something else there. You could have 300m American's watching the one channel but if the fight is ****ing horrible, how many are going to want to watch the next boxing card? Probably the same hardcore group who always watch.

I'd prefer Chavez to be in against an opponent who easily beatable but will put up a good fight. Angulo would be a good choice but he'd probably beat Chavez, though that's the type of opponent they should look out for. The problem is finding a guy who Chavez will easily beat and it be entertaining.

If they can't do that, put him in with someone he'll destroy. Again, there aren't a lot of opponents who fit the bill but if this could end with a highlight reel knockout, great. Maybe Yorgey?

But seeing as Zbik is the opponent, the best bet to save the card is a great fight on the undercard. Looking at recent Top Rank cards, you wouldn't bet on it at all which is worrying. Put Katsidis vs. Rios on there or something, I don't know. The undercard has to be excellent entertainment though.
