Canelo will shine even more if Chavez trys to "outbox" him. Chavez best shot is to try and knock him out he knows he's not winning a decision because if it's close Canelo is getting it

Another thing Chavez can't punch going backwards that will be a big plus for Canelo

Jr. has actually boxed well against fighters he's fought that have been good enough that he's had to rematch.

In those first fights those fighters took advantage of Chavez' aggression and plodding forward.
Then lo and behold Jr. dominates them in rematches waiting on them and fighting from distance.
Jr. can do it, just like most fighters he prefers coming forward and mixing it up.

I'll give you an example of an inferior boxer outboxing a much superior boxer and being able to do so because of his height and reach.
Samuel Peter, a slow lumbering heavyweight went life and death against James Toney in a fight most thought Toney won.
Come rematch time Peter who has plodded foward as he always had done in his fights, decides he's just going to stay at center ring and have Toney come to him.
The result was the bigger, slower, lumbering Peter jackhammered Toney and dominated him strictly using his jab and rarely plodding foward.
Peter had never been a boxer type, he was strictly a power punching heavyweight, but it goes to show that if you're bigger and stronger, an inferior fighter can outbox a smaller more technically advanced fighter if he has the right gameplan in which to use his own height and reach.
Its been done before and Jr. outboxing Canelo and even doing so easily would not come as a shock to me.

I don't know for sure of course, but I'm convinced that Nacho who's tweeked his fighters gameplans before (Chiquita vs Carbajal) has prepared Jr. to come out to take advantage of Canelo's weakness, his slow feet.
Got to remember here, Jr. is going to attempt to employ his boxing gameplan against a fighter slow on his feet which would increase the probability of the gameplan to work.

LOL, if Jr. can pull it off and outbox Canelo, Nacho is going to come out looking genius and putting Freddie Roach to shame. I just got to say, Nacho really has an eye for nuances like this and he's pretty good and gauging if his fighter is capable of employing such tactics.
    I cant wait!!! Haha!

Can you imagine if Chavez outboxes Canelo from the backfoot, he has the dimensions but not sure he has the talent or discipline to pull it off for 12 rounds.

Chavez doesn't have to box for the full 12, he's just has to employ that tactic at the start and maintain it for an amount of rounds where Canelo is forced to have to adjust to it by attempting to close the distance gap.
If Chavez is able to do that and have Canelo coming at him, he has him where he wants him.

"If Jr. follows the gameplan I layed out for him, he has a very good chance to sour Canelo's night." - Nacho Beristain

I think the very best Chavez we've seen so far, beats the very best Canelo we've seen so far.

But Chavez has not shown discipline in a while so my statement means very little as a prediction tool.

    Interesting, if meaningless, matchup.

Canelo lacks slick footwork for sure but Jr is also not that talented off the back foot.
I truly hope this fight brings some fireworks from both guys. I expected Jr to have a nice feeling out round or two and then apply pressure so if he elects to box off the back foot I'm not sure how that plays out TBH

I will say it appears ole Chessburger Jr looks to be in fighting spirit and more dedicated to his craft than we've seen in years so credit to him. Let's see how deadly or dead he looks this afternoon :hang

It would last all of 60seconds before canelo drills him and he goes toe to toe.

JCC Jr doesn't have the footwork to be able to pull is off he can't fight that way definitely not against a guy as good as Canelo. If he tries he will get beat up before he turns back to his old style. With that said I see why Nacho sees why this style would be effective against Canelo he just doesn't have the fighter in JCC JR who can pull it off.

    I don't agree.
Chavez has never been in this kind of shape so I cant really guage what his true capabilities are.

Canelo has faced a much higher grade of opposition. Boxer types like Trout and Lara, not to mention Mayweather, those types of styles you're just not going to look good against even in winning efforts.

Sergio Martinez is the only fighter Chavez has ever faced that's in that pedigree and he layed an egg vs Martinez.

What makes the matchup Chavez vs Canelo now interesting is the size disparity compounded by the fact Junior has actually trained like a world class fighter should train.
With a well trained Chavez, we're going to find out a lot of things about him we didn't know about him due to his lack of preparation.

I would be concerned if I were Delahoya as there is the X factor in Chavez junior that may come out in this fight we've never seen before of him.

it is a great game plan but will jr be disciplined enough to stick to it? will he be too weight drained to pull it off?

Agreed. It's why Lara gave him fits, maybe even beat him...
