Chavevz Jr. is nothing more than physical strength and a high work rate. Absolutley nothing more. I could not see him surviving against the top rated middlweights of the '70s and '80s.

Monzon Sugar Ray Leonard, Hearns, Rodrigo Valdez, Hagler, and Duran (even the fattish, old version of Duran) would beaten Chavez Jr, hands down.

In fact, I cannot imagine Junior beating and Antuofermo or Alan Minter.

In the 70's and '80s, Junior would have been a so-so top 10 contender, but nothing more.

You're right, but we all know this. Why point it out? There's 101 other threads already been made, recycling the same point as this one. He's doing the best with what he's got, what more do people want?

At least all of the fighters you mentioned would fight ANYONE, that they were put in front of. Chavez Jr only fights weaker opponents with ZERO power. (Rubio is the exception but being so much smaller negated what power he had) Same can be said for Alvarez(Canello)

How many people would really say otherwise? It's obvious that the guy has precious little discipline, skill, and gumption and I can't recall having seen one person that's said that he's a great fighter.

Why mention ATGs when current middleweights like Martinez and Golovkin are capable of knocking him out too?

Okay...so let me take it a step further: I believe that Chavez would have lost to many legitimate contenders (at middleweight) over the past few decades. He's just nothing special.

Why is this kid being treated like a big-time star on HBO?

Chavez Jr. is good, I'll grant him that. He's established that belongs on the world stage. But he's really no better than a top-10 or top-15 middleweight who just happens to hold a belt.

Good point. As a matter of fact, Chavez Jr would have been cockcocked by the Kelly Pavlik of 2010. If Kelly gets off the booze and regains just 75% of himself, he will KO junior.

Why do we need to watch Jr. on big time TV? There are better fighters who could have on that TV slot.
