Two more names are being mentioned as possible candidates to fight WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez (43-0-1, 30KOs) on September 24 in Mexico City. Ronald Hearns (26-2, 20KOs), the son of boxing legend Thomas Hearns, has been mentioned, as well as Japanese boxer Nobuhiro Ishida (23-6-2, 8KOs). Hearns was last seen in February, getting stopped in seven rounds by WBA champion Felix Sturm. Ishida was last seen in April, stopping unbeaten James Kirkland in one round. The name of Peter Manfredo Jr. is still being mentioned, but for Chavez's next scheduled fight on November 19.
    from the scene

    Expecting Hearns
….Hearns wasn't even ranked in the June WBC MW rankings TOP 40!

But he suddenly appears as # 15 in the July rankings:rofl:rofl

Ishida is not a bad fight for Jr right now (this being said I think Jr needs to vacate his title, if you are going to be a belt holder, you need to fight like one)

But Ishida is perfect for Jr, and more then that, Ishida deserves another big fight for upsetting the touted Kirkland, and so this fight makes sense. I hope they make it.

If its Jr vs Hears, how crazy is it that Chavez's son and Hearns son would be fighting eachother lol... not unheard of I know but still pretty rare.

A Hearns fight would be a complete joke but they'd sell it as "The Legends Offspring" I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this happen next :-(

It will be Hearns if Bob and Jose can play with the ratings enough. Bob wanted a Hearns-Chavez fight more than he wanted Duddy-Chavez, but Hearns went off and lost to Harry Joe ****ing Yorgey and derailed that meet-up.

Chavez vs. Hearns sells itself. I could imagine press conferences and photo shoots with both parents and, unlike the fight, that would be cool to see.

I can't believe our expectations have been lowered to the point of hoping for Ishida when the most he has ever done has hold a trash interim belt at a division lower and has hardly any punching power.

Thanks Bob, we couldn't handle you know Unification with Sturm or Sergio Martinez.

Ishida might actually be able to pose some problems for Jr, while Hearns is an easy KO win. So as JMP said, bet on Hearns, hope for Ishida.

    Agreed.

At this point, I think Tommy Hearns and JCC Sr would still put on a more entertaining fight than Ronald and Jr. That's a pointless fight if there ever was one. I hope they give Ishida his shot, but I'm not holding my breath for it.
