You thinking Chavez is good enough and him being good enough are two completely different things. It's not as simple as he needs to improve his skill, so change trainers. Some boxers are limited, learning the skills and employing them in bouts are big steps and not everyone can do it. It's easy blaming the trainer. What we seen last night was someone currently out of their depth in every department. It was not down to gameplan, he simply wasn't good enough. If he could use the jab, he would have used it, as you said, it's basic. Once you learn how to use the jab, the next thing you should learn is how to defend/take away the jab. Martinez has both these down to a tee.

Has people forgotten how much Chavez improved since joining Roach? Some people are more gifted than others. Roach took a mediocre fighter and turned him into a champ.

Before Roach, he was having draws with Brian Vera. After Roach, he's knocking out guys like Andy Lee. The guy who benefited the most from this relationship has been Jr.

most trainers are overrated. One of the best trainers I ever saw and I have always said it is Emanual Steward. He has gameplans for fights and sticks to them and really understands the sport.
