Reports are than JR. expects to be back in May and it is the ONLY name not currently mentioned as being on the table under discussions for Pavlik? With Arum the names you hear early usually go by the wayside. It would still be a big money fight for both guys probably and easier to make than any of the others for obvious reasons. Ease of fights being made and hence probability? 1. Chavez IF he returns as SMW. (aka MUNCHIES and long layoff) 2. Bute 6.Kessler 10. Froch 25. Abraham :think
at this point Chavez would beat Pavlik, but a younger Kelly who beat Taylor would knockout Chavez in about 7.
It would be a great fight but I think Arum is more focused on Jr's PPV rematch with Sergio. A Pavlik fight could jeopardize that. If Jr. fights in May, it'll be against a non-threat with some name recognition to build the rematch in September.
I think Chsvez Jr. should try and fight at 168. What is his weight now after all these months of inactivity. He must be up near 200.
I am not sure about that tbh. A prime Martinez who landed cleanly on chanve Jr for 11 rounds couldnt hurt Chavez Jr. People are suspicious about Jr but thats another debate. Would Pavlik ko chavez? He could, but I dont think he would because Chavez has an iron chin and seems to just walk through everyone @ 160.
Chavez Jr was hurt a few times in the Martinez fight, but he hides it well, just like Brandon Rios does. At times Jr voluntarily backed up to the ropes after being hit flush by Martinez. He was hurt. Prime Pavlik breaks Chavez Jr down and stops him no doubt, but now I give the edge to Jr, however Pavlik has never been stopped himself and has Knock-Out power.
Chavez is still pretty inexperienced and it showed in the Martinez fight. Kelly packs more power in his punches and would probably break JR down as the fight went on. These two would be throwing leather and Pavlik's defense has always been underrated by most on this site.
Im not too sure Arum would risk JR against Pavlik at this point. If he does, awesome.... would be one fun fight.
Pavlik is 6-2 and has good leverage and power. More than Sergio. I think if Chavez gets in a war with Pavlik he gets stopped. Pavlik seemed to do well when he could draw guys into a war and catch them when they were throwing punches, exactly what Chavez does.
