Slow day at work today. Rewatched this classic. What a master's class in infighting and ring generalship. Rosario is no slouch but he just can't get room to fight his own fight. So much good stuff going on here. Do yourself a favor... crack a brew and sit down to this one. I actually thought it was funny Rosario had as much backing as he did going into this fight. Despite undoubted talent, he had been hot and cold for years and the smooth skills some were saying would give Chavez issues had really long gone from his style. Still, great performance and win, no doubt.
Rosario hit like a ton of bricks though and Chavez wasn't particularly hard to find it was thought, considering his pressuring style. Chavez showed a granite chin however and good defense for a pressure fighter. Great show of skill by Chavez in dispatching his opponent and a great show of will by Rosario who took more punishment than was by any means demanded of him to take.
Good job on the Rosario shout out here. Chavez gets much, much deserved praised for this brilliant fight, but Edwin fought like a warrior and tried his best to win, and by knockout. His determination and will allowed Chavez to look like even more the monster.
:goodprops for giving the deserved praise to rosario (and of course, to chavez). this, imo, was what established chavez' now legendary chin to the public
I own a clean copy from '87........ This is my all-time favorite Chavez fight to review..... Except, I do like watching Chavez ice Roger Mayweather in 2 rds from 1985..... Them two fights are woody poppers.... MR.BILL
The best one sided fight I ever saw. The only downer, allegedly Rosario's Misses makes their young child watch the entire fight from ringside... Chavez's prime performance, IMO.
The shock was that Chavez could take the kid of shots Edwin could land .. Rosario was a monster puncher , better than Duran at 135 .. he had just destroyed Bramble and was back on top .. Chavez wipped the floors with im and it was an incredible performance ... Man was Chavez the definition of Mexican Tough ... he was a terrific fighter at 130 - 135 ..
seriously, this is the best copy of this fight i've ever seen! thank you, can't wait to view chavez's subtle approach
Terrific fight. It wasn't supposed to be so one-sided. Rosario was an excellent champion. A very skillful boxer and a great puncher. Chavez was just at the peak of true greatness that night. One of the greatest lightweights ever. I thought Rosario looked great winning that title just 14 months earlier against the favoured Livingston Bramble. Yeh it was a SHOCKER alright! As never in a million years did i expect to see Edwin beaten to a pulp by anyone. I've still got the tape somewhere's with Brit Commentary by the late Reg Gutteridge. An all time classic indeed:deal
