:-( :-( :-( “Cotto needs a couple more tune-ups. Right now he’s a little too green,” Mayweather said. Those words come from a man with few other options if: A) His legal situation puts him on ice; or, B) Main Events uses the legal situation to protect Gatti’s burgeoning franchise from the risk of a Mayweather fight. First up for Mayweather is Bruseles, a 21-2-1 (13) native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, same hometown as Cotto. Both are trained by Cotto’s uncle, Evangelista Cotto, and they sparred 40 rounds in training camp. Cotto says Bruseles has a chance, but of course he’s going to say that. They have known each other since they were boys. HE WANTED GATTI, NOT COTTO !!!
Because that's exactly what it was back in the day, you're seriously trying to say that Cotto had a great chance back at 140?, everyone with brains admitted it would be way too early for Cotto. HELL even when Cotto was a new Welterweight many people claimed he needs a few more to prove his self then a fight with Floyd would make sense, yet you're hinting that he was ready to go at 140?, if Floyd said that then his promoter most likely told him. Even Cotto his self said that he would love to fight Mayweather back then but whenever the time is right, meaning not anytime soon. Please stick to Margarito, that's the best discussion you could make.
he never even gave cotto a chance, or kostya.... oh big deal he called them out, but what did he do after gatti...FOUGHT THE ALWAYS RUGGED AND DANGEROUS POWER PUNCHING DEMON SHARMBA MITCHELL AT WELTER
That's because Cotto was considered too green at the time, not just by Mayweather but by everyone, he had like 19 professional fights, get real man. The only discussion worth making at 140 was Hatton and Gatti was a champion there as well. The Bruseless fight was a fight to get the #1 spot for Gatti's title, something Mayweather had to do simply because Gatti never wanted the fight.
You call it running I call it boxing.:good He was somewhat hurt by Chop but what you fail to mention is he went on to drop and win that very same round, showing his fighting sprit. With that said if what Chop did to PBF is as badly hurt as we've seen him in a fight then that's pretty damn good. JLC landed some good shots but PBF was never hurt in that fight please. I've seen that fight numerous times and he wasn't hurt.
Arum said Cotto was too green and Floyd agreed with it. Floyd wanted Gatti because there was only Gatti and Floyd wanted a title at 140. Note the reasons he went through 2 eliminators to fight for Gattis title instead of having Gatti drop it. Gatti was the best 140 fight available.
At 130 PBF would beat the greener Chavez. PBF was by far at his best here and Chavez was not as technically skilled as he was in his 135-140 days. From 135-140 I gave my analysis, but I'll respond for the hell of it. You seem to forget how skilled Chavez was at cutting off the ring. Castillo was very good at this and showed it, even early on in the second fight, of which he won about 4 rounds still, though Floyd fought a hit and run style. Chavez was better than Castillo in every conceivable way, including ability to cut off the ring. This is why I don't think Floyd would be as evasive as you do. He didn't fight like Whitaker. Whitaker fought off the backfoot more effectively than anyone, Mayweather used movement for the most part to find openings and pot-shot, but when cornered(which he often is, unlike Whitaker) he relies on shelling up and countering, which isn't a good idea against an inside fighter like Chavez. He'll get away with it against open swarmers like Hatton and Jesus Chavez, but not Julio. In order for PBF to get power into his punches, he'd have to plant himself like he did against Gatti and those types, which I already explained in the other post, would leave him open against a brutal puncher. Floyd better not fight this way for his own good. His best bet is to pot shot and move like he did Castillo in the rematch, in which case he wouldn't really give Chavez anything to worry about but he'd make for a more elusive target. Just not enough IMO. Just my take.
Still you're not making sense. The fight with Mitchell was a tune-up since Zab needed a tune-up as well to promote their own fights, it's not Mayweather's problem Zab lost to Baldomir and the undisputed title changed hands. Mayweather wanted Baldomir right after that fight but was declined so they went with the Zab fight anyway since they already advertised it a lot without expecting Zab to lose in his tune-up and also mandatory.
There was an interview with ESPN with both Mayweather and Arum sitting right next to each other being questioned about his upcoming fight with Zab. Cotto gets mentioned and Arum his self answers that question claiming that fight will happen but soon as Cotto progresses and IF he decides to follow Mayweather at Welterweight. That pretty much explains why it didn't happen at 140 and that didn't even NEED any explanation because not many demanded it at the time simply and clearly because Cotto was still new. So everyone demanded a fight with Hatton instead till the idea of a fight with Zab was brought up and everyone(including wak, who claimed Mayweather will be scared shitless to take that fight at the time) just ignored the fight with Hatton and claimed they wanted this way more.
Ima be honest with you Floyd impressed me during the fight with Castillo becaue when castillo pounded the legs out of MONEY to an extent, Floyd was in there infighting holding his own very well, and since you saw the fight numerous times you have to remember when Castillo jolted and noticably hurt MOney's whole body with body shots right before the bell rang somewhere around the middle rounds. If big George noticed it I know you did
at 140 when floyd wanted to make noise he called out gatti, kostya and cotto....right ok, after **** started heating up he took on henry while still calling out the champs....well he chose the easier route just like he did at welter and super welter :deal :deal :deal deal with it bro, their facts.... even a green cotto or older kostya would've been alot better than gatti...a fighter that i like a lot but knew was way too limited and old for a young money may....
Oh he just fought Gatti a guy many people here picked to KO PBF. I know you remember the polls and the threads about that fight back then since you were here. Funny after PBF destroys him he's shot to **** typical of PBF haters like yourself.:-( Yeah he fought Mitchell so what? A first fight in a new weight class. His next fight was against the former champ at 147 Zab Judah.
