Clearly a hint that Mayweather didn't?, then please mention who really terrified him, I would really like to know.
What did Oscar accomplish?, is that an honest question?, I will leave boxrec to answer that for you I guess because going into that I would rather write an article for the main page here. But to make it short, Oscar was the champion at 154 and considered the best in that division, a HUGE fight and Floyd's first at a new division going straight into a fight against Oscar. How close that fight was should also answer what Oscar has accomplished. Chavez fought over 60 bums in his career and got endless robberies and gifts, Oscar didn't really take that approach, if he did he would be considered a great with 100+ wins and 6 losses. That event definitely proved something, that's Floyd's 5th title in his 5th division and not against an easy opponent. If that fight meant nothing and the Hatton fight right after it then why was Floyd considered the fighter of the year in 2007?, why wasn't Cotto or even Margarito, they fight people worth fighting right?
What did Gatti accomplish to get a shot at Baldo? What did a shot Roy accomplish to get a shot at Calzaghe? What did Gomez accomplish to get a shot at Cotto? What you fail to realize is things like that happen all the time I could list dozens of examples of it happening. The fact is it was a very marketable fight and had two great fighters and an interesting story that people knew would sell. At the end of the day you must understand boxing is a business period no matter how much we may not like it.
i know, but why did he play the LEGACY card with margo, BUT PLAYED THE MONEY CARD WITH OSCAR he was clearly scared of losing to someone like margo, can't you see that....i'm not saying margo would've won, but imagine it, ****en floyd would commit suicide...
you discredit a true ATG in chavez but admire oscar MR CONTROVERSY himself :rofl :rofl :rofl ahh man, you guys will never ever learn man....
Never said I admired Oscar but respect what he accomplished in the ring, someone I truly admire would be Shane Mosley(since he's connected to Oscar and this discussion). Maybe Chavez is an ATG in your opinion, but not mine and I already mentioned my reasons in a thread you didn't clearly respond to but decided to pull other stuff in the discussion hence this thread and hope other posters will do it for you.
I really did not like Chavez too much, but he was a hell of a fighter. What some of you posters forget is that he was promoted by King. Hell, yes he got some gift decisions due to being a money train for King and others. He was the Oscar of his day as far as the money goes. King would not have it if he were to lose way back in the day. Do I consider him one of the great ones of his heyday, yes. He was relentless. The blame does not fall on him though. It is not like he told Steele to stop the fight with a few seconds left. It is a business. You think if any of Pacman's fights int he future are close, they are going to give it to his opponent. Well, unless they are selling a trilogy. Anyways, they were trying keep Chavez "0" intact to sell. If he would have lost to LaPorte or to guys earlier in his career, who is to say he would have gotten even better by losing. Everybody loses and either it makes you stronger or breaks you. Scar I think you are being a little unfair with Chavez. All greats and other fighters have had controversies in their matches including Oscar, Ali, etc.
:good :good :good :good If Chavez was not a legend, then quite simply, boxing has no legends. JCC was a top 10 all time p4p fighter & even guys as good as Mayweather jr are not in my book. Ps. I think Chavez beats Floyd 130, 135 & probably 140 tho that 1 would be closer as the great man lost a bit of speed & reflexes at 140 lbs. Good chance Floyd gets TKOd vs a LWT Chavez who beat Rosario, that version of Julio would give Floyd problems he never knew existed.
bro, i've been responding to you here...what other post are you talking about...and your reasons are stupid and childish...dont you get it, your probably the only person that thinks chavez aint an atg...
It doesn't matter to me . . . if other people consider SR a legend or not . . . he is one of my all time favorites along side ALI, Leonard, Salvador Sanchez and Duran.
Chavez and Mayweather are both legends. :yep :yep And both can be criticized. There you have Scar's and Freddy's arguments.
