Got any proof that he's responsible to his "retirement"?, as far as I remember Mayweather considered that fight long ago and Cotto was still considered "green" and a new Welterweight, which is why Margarito was the only pick worth mentioning till he eventually and expectedly loses, which he did and Cotto was considered ready. It will be too easy to replace that avatar, which you will soon prove.

Chavez fought many good to very good fighters, but he never beat any greats. The Taylor win was his biggest, and Taylor's no HOF'er. Guys like Camacho(past prime), Rosario, La Porte and Lockridge(both arguably robberies), Mayweather, Ramirez(past prime), Haugen, and Randall(robbery) were his best wins otherwise. Good quantity, just not a whole lot of quality when compared with other highly rated ATG's. Also, the fact that he did receive a gift here and there, notably the second Randall fight, takes away from his mystique.

I still maintain that at his best he was a very formidable foe for anyone. A good portion of his criticism comes pre-prime and post-prime.

Actually, you Floyd fans have you to get your facts straight. Floyd never considered that fight and it was FLoyd himself who said Cotto was too "green"

Floyd was with Arum at the time and what I was talking about had nothing to do with the 140 days, it's the 147 days I'm referring to because Cotto was still a new guy at 147 at a time when Margarito was being hyped to be the next Hagler simply because there was no one else and Cotto was considering a move to 147. The 140 days Floyd was with Arum and when Arum his self claims the fight with Cotto is better off later then you know it is. Unless you thought Cotto with 19 professional fights had a great chance then you should look into being his promoter and manager instead.

What would you define as a legend if Chavez is not one?

I never said any of that. Are you illiterate or something?

Anyone who has a clue about Camacho knows his prime was in the early 80's in his 130 and 135 days. He was still a good fighter by the time Chavez beat him up, but not at his best by a long shot. There is a very clear difference between the 90's Camacho and the one that schooled Jose Luis Ramirez.
