Chavez is the greatest Mexican boxer of all time and one of the all time greats. Anyone who disputes this is a ****!

The guys who were HOFers didn't come into their primes till Chavez was out of his. Doesn't mean his Post prime days makes him a tomato can, because past his prime he was still good enough to beat top 5 fighters. He was getting noticably past his prime around the terrence Ali fight(notice his huffing and puffing). But when he was in his prime he looked invincibe. People want to downplay his very little short commings by analysing him after he was past his prime but the problem here is that he didn't have those shortcomings during his Hayday. Its also notible that great fighters who aren't fast on their feet are more likely to go downhill once they are past their best verses fighters who poses good speed and reflexes. why do you think the ones who go up 3 or 4 divisions always poses good speed. By the way the only guys who feel LaPorte was robbed was the puerto Ricans at Madison Square Garden on that night. As for the lockridge fight watch it and see how chavez outclassed Rocky. It was close but Chavez was the obvious winner unless you were on Lou Duvas ontourage or Lou Duva himself.

I mostly agree, though both Lockridge and La Porte had him boxing, as he didn't seem comfortable trading with them. I was simply giving his resume. While still very good, it's not a great one, and while he was a great fighter at his best, his top wins are less than stellar for the most part(though he had a few top notch ones), and he carries a lot of controversy.

Who were tha great fighters he could have faced during his prime that were avalible to him? Obviously many didn't want to fight him. SWeet Pea was "waiting for the right time".

So since Chavez reverted to boxing instead of going forward that doesnt mean he wasn't forcing his will on them. Cotto did the same vs Mosley more recently and I still think he won but there are always going to be people who favor the bruising style regardless of who REALLY wins the rounds.

I'll agree he does carry alot of controversy but that was more toward his "old" days. I didnt like the past his prime version of Chavez as a person. But the only controversy i could recall when it mattered were things out of his hands. the disqualification loss that was reversed, and the Steele stoppage. just a note, i scored every round with the noise down twice and I gave the fight to Chavez by a point thanks to the KNock down.

Well, I think we can see where you stand in this debate by that. Did you score Chavez/Whitaker for Chavez as well?

I actually thought Chavez did very well against Taylor, though he most certainly was not winning the fight on points, he was just getting outlanded too handily to cop rounds. You must be the very first I've ever heard with that opinion. I had it about 8 rounds to 3 for Taylor prior to the stoppage, which I consider justified, if a bit unfortunate.
