“The weigh-in is at 3PM on Friday,” said Arum, “the only weigh-in in the history of boxing where we see the fighters making weight and we REVEAL the weight for the first time at the weigh-in. Something very unique in boxing, so everybody come because it’s not the normal weigh-in.”

The above may be one of the dumbest and most unprofessional things I've ever read regarding a prize fight. I will say it seems Vera is up for anything because it's going to be his largest payday ever, but Arum's quote is just so ludicrous it's shocking.

Edit - Should obviously say Chavez Jr. in title

it doesn't matter if one of your fighters is a lazy pothead who trains when and how he wants, and comes in at a catchweight that will be settled after the weigh in, as long as he sells tickets, well done Bap Arum

What a mess. The weigh limit is whatever Jr. weighs he means. Arum is screwing Vera hard, but I guess he's paying him well for this fight.

If a fighter can't be professional, he should get out of boxing and do something else. I bet Jr will weight 170 on Friday.

His pops said 172 a couple of days ago during an interview on ESPN Deportes. I think it could be more.

Whats the deal with Vera's management for allowing this fraud. Are they too cheap to retain a lawyer to enforce the contract-which presumably BOTH signed?Where is the useless California Commission to protect the boxers rights?
    What a joke.
Clearly Vera is there for one reason only-a payday.

I heard Vera's trainer say that they both signed a contract to fight at 168 and if Jr weighs above this, they'll have to produce a big cheque if they want the fight to happen.

Presumably Top Rank have been in contact and they've came to an arrangement on how much they'll have to pay for every pound Chavez weighs over 168lbs.

The utter contempt that Jr and Arum have showed Vera, the fans and the sport itself is sickening though.
