Before we go ahead and argue this lets talk about the rematch.
That was Taylors chance to get his respect back right. What happened?

HE GOT KNOCKED THE **** OUT!! If there had been no rematch then we could argue this but Taylor got his shot again and got his ass handed to him regardless so whats the point of this thread other than to discredit a non-American fighter as usual.

Doesn't really matter how much time was left in the round. Taylor was KO'd within the 12 round time limit for the fight. If it was meant to be any other way we'd have 2:58 rounds not 3:00 rounds.

Taylor wasn't robbed of anything. He lost, pure and simple. He may have beat the count, but he did NOT answer Steele's question of, "Are you all right? Are you all right?" I guess in the opinion of all the whiney bitches, Steele should have asked Taylor if he was all right about 15 freaking times to make sure. Or how about if Taylor was still on the floor? Should Steele have helped Taylor up and let the fight continue? Incredibly easy call that was made only to be blown up into a controversial call by Taylor's fans, Chavez haters, and idiots who lost a shitload of money betting against Chavez. Too bad, so sad. Deal with it.

As much as I hated seeing it stopped in the way (or better yet the time) it was stopped in. It was necessary and a good, valid stoppage.

So, if Steele hadn't stopped it, would u call it a "robbery" for Chavez?

Pretty much the same here. It was good Taylor didn't get hit any more. It was bad that he didn't have a victory to show for his efforts after fighting his heart out and boxing at probably the greatest level he ever would.

In recent years after rewatching not just the fight, but some of the pre and post fight stuff, I've swung slightly more in favor of the view that it was a good stoppage, because Taylor was still a little out of it in the post fight interview with Larry Merchant, claiming that Steele stopped the fight without giving him a count or asking if he was ok.

And while someone (I think Sweet Scientist) has jumped on me for that one before, asking if maybe Taylor just misspoke in the moment or if it was some sort or bravado, sure, that's possible, but it sure doesn't look good. And one punch, even after the bell, can change a life. Ask Michael Watson about what a single uppercut from Chris Eubank (in a fight Watson was winning BIG) did to his life and health if you don't believe me.

    It was a fair stoppage.

There will always be some sort of controversy in boxing, especially in a big fight like this one.

Does anyone NOT think there would have been contraversy if Steele had let the fight go & Taylor was saved by the bell ?
Of course there would have been, only it would have come from the Chavez camp rather than Taylors.

It is what it is, its over.

Before taking that punch, Watson is moving around pretty well, winning the fight, moving well, throwing punches, and looking like a winner. Hell, he floored Eubank 10 second before that uppercut landed.

After being hit with that uppercut, he couldn't close his mouth, had to be guided to his corner at the bell, had to be pushed down by one of his cornermen to sit on his stool, guided back out of it at the start of the 12th by the ref to touch gloves, didn't throw a single punch in the 12th (and I doubt Eubank landed a clean blow either, since Watson simply sat back with his guard up), and then collapsed a few minutes after the ref stopped the fight.

Usually I'd be the first to say that most one punch KOs aren't really one punch, as the fighter gets worn down by other blows beforehand, or set up for the killer shot by others, and while all the other shots to the head he took certainly didn't do him any favors, in this case it really seems like it was the one shot that did all the damage.

Of course, anyone that wants to can judge for themselves, and come to their own conclusion.
