Meldrick never recovered from that fight IMO **** stoppage Taylor fought his heart out, probably that was the problem Meldrick could box like a mother ****er but chose to fight
Definitely. No other fighter could have come thru that physically or mentally to finish strong like that. Good stoppage IMO... if Taylor was saved by the bell then in reality it would have meant that Chavez was beaten by a clock as opposed to an opponent. Imagine the injustice if the bell saved the CLEARLY beaten fighter ? It was clear as day who had won the fight at that point, a clock should not be allowed to decide who is the better fighter, Im glad it didnt in this case. It deseved to be voted best fight of the 90s... brilliant fight.... I watched it a few weeks ago (again) :good

You have just made me think..... Maybe your right but if only Taylor didn't engage in a fight there wouldn't have been an issue. Taylor won the boxing match Chavez won the fight
Excellent, never seen this before. ALSO... I watched the 2nd & 3rd ones too, it says in the 3rd one during introductions that there will be NO STANDING 8 COUNT. That would mean that Chavez would have won by KO inside the distance anyway if Steele never counted as he shouldnt have
Great fight. Good stoppage,Taylor was taking a beating and wouldve died if it continued. People say Taylor was dominating but hes the one that got sent to the hospital while JCC didn't have a scratch on him
I disagree with those who say it was a **** stoppage. If Taylor had won that fight, it would have shown the limitations of the scoring system. Yes, Taylor won the first nine rounds on points. Yet his punches never slowed Chavez and after the fight, Chavez looked alright. Taylor was ht hospitalized, pissed pure blood, had a facial fracture. Just a few years earlier, the fight would have gone 15 rounds and Taylor might very well have died. Taylor was a beaten man through and through after the fight, Chavez looked like he could go some more rounds easily.
Richard Steele did the right thing... Nobody would have had any problems with the stoppage if there was more time left on the clock... and the ref didn't know the exact time. And Meldrick was in bad shape... He just lost, just like that other Taylor just inside the distance. The rest of the guys careers should tell you enough who was the better of the two.
