Let's say Taylor was given the benefit of the doubt & was allowed to finish, thus winning the fight. Knowing Don King, Chavez most likely would have been given a immediate rematch. How would a fight like that have panned out? Same scenario? Or given the damage Taylor sustained, would he have been the same?
Good question, but I suspect the mental edge Taylor would have over Chavez would lead him to another victory. Chavez went to the immediate rematch with Randall and he was looking for a way out of that fight by the second round. Chavez turned out to be a very sore loser.
Difficult to say. Given that mist people felt that Taylor had dominated most of the fight and that he was managed by the Duva family, meaining he was not under the umbrella of Don King Productions, I suppose he wouldn't have had too much pressure to fight him again. Of course, there is the issue of that match being one of the higher paying fights in that vacinity, but there were also other big fish to fry. Hector Camacho was still unefeated at Jr. Welterweight, while Simon Brown and Aron Davis ( who taylor eventually fought ), were big welterweight paydays.
I'd favour chavez to have KO'd taylor within 6 round if they rematched directly, that fight finished taylor IMO and a if you couple that with a fired up chavez looking for vengence,it would have been brutal
I guess another late stoppage for Chavez in another exciting fight. Although Taylor was still good after the fight he never was quite what he was before. The rematch in 1994 went 8, and Taylor had deteroriated more in those 4 years than Chavez.
I know but chavez won the 1st fight and and the thread is saying if he had lost and recieved a immediate rematch how would it have gone I see chavez being that fired up if he'd lost the 1st fight coupled with the fact i don't think taylor was close to the same fighter again and also chavez being better in 90 than 94 himself. I see him going after taylor from the get go and breaking him down around about round 6 A fighter coming back from there 1st loss can be a dangerous entity to deal with and i'm not sure the taylor post chavez 1 could handle the JCC i invisage coming at him in a rematch
true but that usually depends on the beating they took to become damaged goods. if it had gone to the cards and taylor won, chavez wasnt hurt like taylor was in the fight and would have pushed that much harder in the rematch. i think the second time around chavez takes it, immediate rematch or not.
Of course it can go two ways no doubting that, i just suspect chavez would have come back like a man possesed, mainly because if we are saying that taylor doesnt get stopped in there 1st fight chavez would have known how close he was to stopping him in that fight. i believe that he would have taken quite a bit of encouragment from that and in a rematch believe that he can take taylor out and will go about the job like he did in the 1st fight, however taylor IMO wasn't the same fighter afer there 1st fight and wouldn't be able to deal with sort of pressure chavez would exert
from what we have seen of Chavez he wasnt exactly a loser who became more determined from a loss. After the Randall loss he never had that same passion again until maybe the ODLH fights
I think it'd last while because Chavez was usually pretty deliberate and patient in his attack. While Taylor never fully recovered, he was still fighting at a high level. It wasn't until 1992 until he really showed the signs of too much punishment from his fights, Chavez and others, probably the gym as well.
I don't think this is a hard question at all...... i'm very confident that Chavez would've beaten him down quicker.
How did Meldrick Taylor look against Aaron Davis? I know he won but did he still have his speed. Speed bothered Julio Cesar Chavez and if he still had his speed I think Taylor would win as long as he made it to the final bell.
Taylor was screwed after that fight, Chavez gets him out of there within the distance with no controversy.
