I just rewatched it last night; while it wasn't an ATG boxing clinic, Taylor was still showing great style and working well both on the outside and the inside, despite taking heavy damage down the line. Anyways, all things considered, I can't blame Steele for stopping an incoherent fighter after looking into his eyes and getting no response, and I can't blame Duva for telling him to make sure he won the round.
Duva was no idiot working a corner. And he'd already been screwed in a DKP card with that fiasco with JL Ramirez and Sweat Pea. Geez, how many effective clean punches did Ramirez even land in the fight, 1 per round? And there he was getting peppered the rest of the time. So under the circumstances, he had to tell Taylor to press the action. A 15 round fight ends all the arguments though. Actually, that long sustained beating Taylor took didn't do him any good anyway, even if he gets the nod. Then, King claims his guy was robbed at the bell and is granted an immediate rematch. The ballgame was pretty much over for Taylor and if he wasn't quite ruined, he certainly was damaged goods. Tough tough sport when you don't believe in defense.
i do agree that taylor could have boxed a bit more, moved, and tried to win the fight, one round at a time. taylor was winning the rounds, but chavez was making him pay a price, taylor wanted to prove he could stand and have a fight with chavez, and for 11 rounds, 2 minutes and 58 seconds he did, until chavez finally caught up with him.
