Let me answer both replies since both are basically the same, if Nevada wanted to do something in regards to his previous test that he failed they should have done so back then.

There is no reason they should now bring that up and use it to maximize the kind of money they are looking to gain here which is exactly what they are doing.

I am guessing that he is fined a percentage of his purse and I am confident his purse for the Martinez fight dwarfs the previous purse in which he failed the previous test.

So to me likely Nevada is using the previous test to maximize what they can get out of Chavez Jr...... I am sorry but I just do not agree with what Nevada is doing in terms of the amount that they are fining him..... I really hope he does see this legal suit through....

I hear you man but check it out

    - Wheres Nevadas outline on what the penalties will be under 2nd offenses?

Youre telling me they can just pull any bull**** number out of their ass to fine a fighter? Thats asinine.

    - There is no precedent for a fighter getting raped like this for a 2nd offense. James Toney was fined less then $10k for his 2nd offense.

If they want to set a precedent then fine, but they need to have it stated beforehand and outlined as such in their penalties. No governing body should have the power to just slap around whatever number they want to without guidelines, especially when the penalty is so completely out of sinc with every other fine ever given out in this country.

I'm not opposed to people smoking weed, and like most on here I think the legal attitudes towards its use are preposterous and antiquated, BUT it is illegal and Jr should have known better.

I think its good what nevada did. They are telling chavez he aint getting way that easy cause he fail it in another state dont mean it should be ignored.

We obviously disagree, I think that the fine amount is too much.... and if they get away with it this opens the door for them to continue to make money off of fighters over **** like this....

Weed is not a PED though I agree in the real world and I have said it before in the real world if you test positive for weed you lose your job, here its not like he is losing his job and he has an opportunity to make a very good living in this sport there has to be some sort of accountability I agree with that.

But I also believe that the amount is just insane it makes the commission look desperate for money.....

Recidivism is taken into account in determining pretty much any punishment. Acting outraged that they actually counted the second offense as strike 2 makes little sense to me. This is especially the case when it's not just the second offense but the second straight offense. Don't get me wrong, this is an obvious cash grab, but Chavez sure makes it easy for them by blatantly acting like the rules don't apply to him.

Nevada which is very pro alcohol has interests to protect. Mainly infitration of any illegal substances. Chavez Jr. Has a fighter's license. Under that statute he is legally obligated to follow the rules and maintain his drug free use.

He may possibly win a case but it still is going to be a high substantial amount.

NSAC has a strict set of rules. What would have happened if Chavez jr KO'd Maravilla. He would have tested positive, then what? You'd never see MJ legalized in a fighting state in any way shape or form. It would have been a bigger mess.

Whether you disagrree or not, there are maijuana strains that decrease pain in some patients.

Fact of the matter, NSAC has their own standard to uphold for all fighters and those fighters are licensed to uphold them.

Btw, I think its too steep myself but Chavez aint exactly acting like he wouldnt do it again.
