The Chavez-Vera rematch did 1.39 million viewers Saturday which is slightly less than their first fight and the best for HBO so far this year.
It does, but I don't think it would do great as a PPV event, personally. I just wonder how much it would garner on HBO reg.
Chavez-GGG does a respectable 600k-700k I think PPV, though how its priced would matter - and probably about 1.8m regular HBO.
Gennady Golovkin is a complete unknown to casual fans. If they want to put him in a PPV against Chavez Jr. they need to market him more.
Based on..... ? My experiences beg to differ. Ignoring the hard ratings of his last HBO outing for a second (similar to JR/Vera ratings) - anecdotally lots of people I know who had ignored boxing for MMA have started paying more attention to boxing because of Golovkin. The people I speak of are 100% "casual" fans. (Last night I was asked by one if Ward and Mayweather would fight, to give you an idea. )
Surprise surprise, better than Ward's last fight. Yet Ward still seems to think he's the biggest money generating fighter between 160 and 175
