as the likely location. On Saturday in Los Angeles, Chavez captured the WBC middleweight title with a twelve round decision over Sebastian Zbik. Cotto is the current 154-pound champion of the WBA. No information was specified on whether Cotto will go up to the full middleweight limit.:deal

foreman was fine when the fight started and cotto beat him regardless of his injury. mayorga looked pretty good . but chavez is a joke. it will just add an undefeated fighter that cotto will demolish.

As long as the winner fights Martinez immediately i guess its not so bad. Martinez is having too much trouble finding a big name opponent. I hope he doesnt end up sitting out the rest of the year.

I think people are making a very harsh decision picking Cotto to win so easily. Chavez will probably be 180 or close to it on fight night while Cotto will be at 160-165 tops.

The pressure Chavez will put on him might be too much specially with that added weight. Cotto does not belong at 160. Im a huge cotto fan but realistically i dont think Cotto could hurt Chavez much while Chavez should be able to grind Cotto down.

I actually want to see Cotto at 147. 154 might even be pushing it too much.

The thing is, boxistically Chavez Jr. doesn't have the tools to maximize his size advantage. Pressure him? Cotto has superior footwork and a well-timed jab to control distance on the outside when he needs to; Chavez so far lacks the nuanced foot placement to corner and stalk an elite-level fighter. On the inside? Chavez gets some work done but Cotto lands the crisper, harder, more accurate shots, with a superior defense sparing him from the worst. If he lands to the body he could seriously discourage an already sub-optimal stamina.

It's fun and competitive, with Chavez's chin, aggression, and the weight behind his voluminous punches giving Cotto some trouble, but he's just beat in almost all areas and doesn't have the skill yet to get himself into position well enough to do what it would take to beat Miguel Cotto.

You are mentioning a prime Cotto at 147 right there though. that is not the same Cotto we have right now.
That would be a 160 pound version of Cotto who would be more than likely slower. Cotto is 5'7" meanwhile he would be facing a 180lb 6' tall guy.
I can guarantee you his plan will be to be leaning on Cotto wearing him down that way with weight and also body shots.

I see Cotto outboxing him the first 5-6 rounds and from then on the weight will start making a difference. I also honestly dont know if Cotto could take Jrs. power. He does throw some heavy shots and Cottos chin was even shaky at 147.

Why isnt Cotto going down to 147? I would love to see an Ortiz-Cotto fight. That would be entertaining and winnable for both. I dont even know who i would pick there
