15 rounds, two great fighters at their peak weights. How do you guys see it playing out? I feel that they are q similar fighters, both come fowrward brawler types but with a great deal more intelligence than is at first apparent. However Chavez IMO is just the poorer mans version, although i think he goes the distance in a bruising battle.
Duran on points at 135 and 140. His free flowing punching, elasticated style, with better defense and boxing ability edges it for him.
This would definitley be a WAR. Both love coming forward, but Duran is more crazier and wilder than Chavez. I would give this fight to Duran by UD.
For me this is "the" dream fight. Two of the most complete fighters at their peaks of the last 40 years. If anyone can stay with Duran on the inside it is Chavez. I see them testing each other, engaging and maybe one of them backing down. Both of them capable of causing maximum damage and yet both of them adept at slipping and riding the big shots. The tempo would change back and forth as both fighters look for the advantage. Very hard to pick as it's hard to see either fighter being dominated. I'm gonna go for Duran on a split decision if he doesn't break Julio's heart. I wouldn't bet the house on it though.
I've never thought chavez matched up well with Roberto.I think he'd be doing very well if he was able to make it as competitive as the second and third Dejesus' fights even.
Duran is a little bit overrated on this forum and will def. win the poll more because of his popularity. I think it's funny that people speak of both fighters as being the same style, seems they haven't seen either fighter. Duran was more like an aggressive mid-range boxer-puncher while Chavez was the stalker/inside/counter-puncher. Duran was definitely wilder and Chavez placed his shots better. I think Chavez was a little better at slipping punches and he definitely has the chin to come forward and impose his will on Manos de Piedra. Chavez by split decision!
Roberto is just the better all round fighter...but with a doubt Julio pushes him as hard as anyone in history. Duran by a couple of points at both weights.
