Does it change the fact that Duran quit in the biggest rematch in boxing history?

What's your point? It has no bearing on his career at 135. Not only that, but Duran went on afterwards to defeat Davey Moore, to give Marvin Hagler a fight, and then pull the huge upset against Iran Barkley.

Well Leonard was riding his imaginary bicycle in that fight, wanted nothing of Duran. I don't blame Duran for quitting. Even the toughest fighters of all time have quit before. **** happens. Stop degrading one the greatest lightweights in the history of our sport; and one if its greatest ambassadors. I'd like you to call even an old Duran a punk to his face... that'd provide us all with a good laugh.

Name one fighter who has quit, just because another fighter is on the bike? Duran is a fat drunk now. Why would I call him a punk?

I think its a fight that could go either way with Duran of course being the favorite. But it would not surprise me if Chavez won too.
People forget that Chavez was a beast at 135 also. I really dont think Duran hurts him and stops him. I think the guy who trains the hardest and comes more dedicated takes it. My money would be on Duran but my heart would be with Chavez.

this would be one of the greatest fights ever duran was such a beast swarming mean combinations he was relentless at 135
then duran one of the toughest sob's of any time mean body attack.
it would def come down to who could keep the pace
but i would have to say duran just the best at lightweight.
by the way when he foght leonard he had moved up to welter he had already had a long reign at lightweight

Duran over Chavez fairly clearly. Chavez was a great fighter, unquestionably an all-time great and legend and ambassador of the sport, but Duran was simply better.

Duran quitting against Leonard was bad. Duran however redeemed himself. By moving up and fighting men like Hagler, Hearns, Barkley, etc., who were all bigger than him, he proved once again his fighting heart.

One disgraceful incident in a warriors career that lasted over 100 fights doesn't define a career.

Wow, a lot of Duran fans here. How could anyone possibly say Chavez would get beat easily. That's just silly.

What the heck, I'll take Chavez. In his prime, which lasted many years, no one beat him. I mean, he won like a million fights before suffering his first loss. I just think he would be too much for Roberto and win by KO or TKO.

But what a fight that would be!

Duran would win this and actually quite comfortable, chavez was brilliant but duran was better at almost everything, faster hands, better footwork, better on the inside and outside and better defence, more power and equal chins.

Duran at 135 was exceptional and chavez styles wise just won't beat duran, he will come forward and fight duran and whilst it will make for a brilliant fight no one under 147 imo can beat duran in a pure fight

I don't actually fvour anyone under 147 to beat prime duran however if you are to do it you need to box and move and frustrate duran with movement and chavez does not fit the bill to do that
