Chávez served notice that he was a future all-time great by beating down--just outgunning--a good champion! Respect for Rosario, who defended his crown gallantly.

If i recall, Chapo was talking mad trash to Julio before the fight, and Julio's intent was to sadistically punish Rosario for all 12 rounds, as he would later on do to Camacho, and intended to do with Haugen.

Credit where credit is due tho, Rosario never stopped trying and gave it his all, but he had a peak, pissed off JCC right in front of him all night long with very bad intentions to hurt his opponent.

What I find interesting is that for all the real truth there is to the idea that Rosario wasn't particularly durable, I don't believe he was ever knocked off his feet.

Anyone know for sure? I think that's right........:huh

It was a brilliant performance. Chavez utterly and completely dismantled and owned him, applying a serious beating while standing right in his face, working body and head, up and down wide and centered punches, doubles and triples with the same hand, while moving his head so as to avoid any solid blows thrown in return. That was peak Chavez. Julio was expert at just beating you to death until you had nothing left to give. Rosario's corner probably should have retired him much earlier.

Chavez did a terrific job, but Rosario was hanging in there for all he was worth.

I don't think he COULD just put him away, and you can see him try to make a push at several points in the fight, but Chapo hangs on, holds on, and survives.

As a fighter as good and as intelligent as Chavez, you settle in, then, for the 12 round beating. Trying endlessly and recklessly for the stoppage is rather risky, and usually not a good call.
