Because he's going around parading as the world champion, that's why. He's taking honours he doesn't deserve and being financially awarded for something he doesn't deserve. It's not that diffucult to figure out. If Chavez isn't ready, fine. Drop the belt and stop calling yourself a champion. You can't have your cake and eat it.

You speak as if he's been holding the belt hostage for years.
He won it in June, had an optional defense, is now fighting the #1 ranked contender,
and the winner can then fight Sergio. If it doesn't happen then, I would expect him to vacate or be stripped.

    my point of view:
he had a shot at the title after fighting nobodies-then picked an european title holder, brought him home and fought a fight that he lost to many( got easily outworked)
then for his optional defense he picks( or his promoter, i dont have anything personal against this kid)somebody ranked nowhere close to a contender.
nobody has said FOR SURE he's fighting Rubio, a legit contender.
he is been calling DLH who is old and retired.
he avoids martinez- the real champ-as a plague
he is talking Cotto, who is a welter at his best, never been at 160
he is talking Canelo, who is another welter and unproved fighter.
that is my problem with people handling this kid

Good fight for the fans and for Chavez if victorious. But if I was part of his management team I would have just gone for the big money and name Martinez instead of the big risk and low reward fighter like Rubio who is very capable of defeating Chavez.

I defo see your point but in reality Chavez/Arum don't need Martinez to make money. It is Sergio who needs Chavez to make any scratch in the middleweight division.

Fighting Rubio is the right choice because MAR has been in line for another shot @ a world title & I doubt Martinez/HBO would have granted him that.
(Due to lack of revenue & interest in seeing that)

DiBella don't have the package Arum/Top Rank can offer HBO.
Throwing in Donaire Vs. Vasquez Jr. & this card is a wrap.

Martinez and DiBella always said that they'd fight Rubio for the belt if/when Chavez got stripped. Of course, if DiBella succeeds in getting him stripped before this fight then Rubio's the one who won't be available.
