no he wasn't...look at the clip and all arguments will be over if steele had let taylor continue, chavez would've had about 6 seconds to do some more damage..... what you guys are basically saying is that steele should've done some rule breaking **** and hold the fighter till the bell rang :-( :-( :-( IF taylor would've been able to continue, steele should've let him go with 6sec left.....taylor didn't answer so he waved the fight off.....i dont understand what the big fuss is about
on the first page....of course he went to the neutral corner right away....but he was creeping up little by little....
It doesn't mean that one punch would have killed him. Lots of fighters become brain-damaged. It's still too tough to say what an extra punch or 2 would've done in some of their bad beatings.
If there was a clock showing :00,02 than I would disagree with Stele's decision to stop the fight. However there was not a clock just a red flashing light to indacate that there was 10 seconds or less left in the round. Taylor fought the fight of his life but the right decision was made.
My opinion on this fight swings back and forth but no one forced Taylor to keep going at Chavez and with a victory in the bag, and on the edge of exhaustion, Taylor jumped in supidly and let himself get whacked. I blame his corner for telling him he needed the round and distracted him, but also Taylor for being so reckless.
The point was that if Mosley with ONE second was able to KNOCK Mayorga OUT COLD who by that time hadn't taken a beating, what would of happened to Taylor, who was busted up extremely bad, with let's say 3-5 seconds to go???? Steele made the right call. Had Chavez landed one more power punch against the tired, confused, and dazed Taylor, he could have possibly gotten killed. It is the job of the ref to protect the fighter.
I've pressed those that were the most adamant about it being a bad stoppage, and asked them what could Steele have done different...... ....the best they could do is comment that he should have asked Taylor more questions.atsch .....basically, thats exactly what they are asking of Steele Freddy.....stall for time and keep asking questions of Taylor until time expired. ....anybody with any sense would think about this scenario of repeatedly asking questions, and come to the conclusion that it woud be ridiculous to ask any referee to purposely allow time to expire that way.:-(
I believe had Steele unexplicably let the fight continue without so much as a response from Taylor......the probability is that an unsuspecting Taylor would have gotten hit and fallen limp and lifeless to the canvas. What idiot lets a fight continue without a response from the hurt fighter?
Thank god Richard stopped the fight. Taylor fought like a true champ that night but just couldnt stop the JC Express.
I agree with the Chavez-Taylor stoppage sure Taylor probablly would not have taken 1 more hit but thats besides the point. There was still time left in the fight and Steele believed he could not continue he clearly asked him twice if he was ok to continue and Taylor failed to respond. The time left means nothing if he couldnt continue then a TKO is in order.
Thats the whole point of this thread......Chavez likely would have landed another shot......Mosely landed a final shot that KTFO Mayorga, and he did it with less time on the clock that Chavez would have had, had Steele let it continue.
