Chavez vs. Taylor - Commentating sucks!

Harald Lederman had Roger Mayweather 5-1 in front at the halfway point of his rematch with Chavez from memory as well,despite Chavez kicking his arse.
It seems HBO didn't have a lot of time for Chavez back then.

 

What was with the complete silence from the hbo team for the last 50 seconds? Anyone would think their audio cut out .

 

True, the only thing they said was "...........If he gets up, he probably wins the fight".

 

HBO clearly decided that they were gonna be the event or at least be on par with the fights themselves. They blow.

 

commentating was biased but i still had the exact same score as lederman. i've rewatched that fight 15+times and the MOST rounds i could ever give chavez was 3 instead of 2. and that was looking for something.

they downplayed the effects of chavez's blows but as has been said, hindsight is 20/20. watching that fight for the first time, NONE of us realized the damage chavez was doing

having said that, it doesn't matter, he was thoroughly outboxed and all the comments by HBO on chavez's shots wouldn't have changed the fact for 11 rounds plus rounds, he got creamed

 

It totally does. Chavez was slamming Taylor with hard shots without hardly a comment form the announcers. Round after round I kept asking, if Chavez isn't hitting Taylor, then why is Taylor's face becoming a bloody mask? The last three rounds Chavez was nailing Taylor with clean whistling shots. It was uncomfortable to watch those shots because Chavez has bricks for hands and he punishes rather than lands point-of-chin knockout blows. Taylor was landing a lot (and missing more), but his shots weren't having an effect on Chavez. And Chavez wasn't just taking shots. He was making Taylor miss a lot with head movement. Chavez's shorts were pulverizing. And, boys and girls, that's is a big part of boxing. It's a fight, and the guy getting his ass kicked is not shutting out his opponent merely because he is landing more punches. If this is what it's all about, then lose the judges and use compubox to score fights. Do that and you lose me. I want to see effective aggression, and that means in part grinding your opponent down. Taylor can say he could continue all he wanted, but when Steele asked him, Taylor turned that bloody mask away from Steele. It was a signal that it was over. The better man had won. Taylor should have stayed away the last three rounds.
