It's certainly an angle and view on things the consensus opinion doesn't often take, instead focusing almost solely on name value. I've noticed a lot of people seem to put a lot of emphasis on favorites/underdogs here (I don't really subscribe to it being wholly significant), but FWIW Rosario was actually favored going into the Chavez fight, with a proven 135 pedigree and punch to match. Chavez of course, was moving on from super featherweight in a big way.

I've often heard the argument about Carbajal and Gonzalez but people for get there was a lot of boxing politics that prevented the fights happening.I've also heard the old "it was only 3lbs" argument but at those minimum weights,being at your best and most comfortable weight was absolutely essential.If it was only 3lbs,why didn't they(Carbajal and Gonzalez) go down.
Add to that I felt Finito lost a bit of his sting at the higher weight when he did go up and IMO,that made his decision to retire easier.
And Lopez destroyed Sorjatourong,who went on to stop Gonzalez not too long after.
And if you don't think Lopez had the game to beat Carbajal(who I was a big fan of) then you're seeing something that's outwith my line of vision.
Carbajal fought in a tougher division,but he fell short more than once when he stepped up.He may have better wins on paper,but Lopez beat everyone that was put in front of him.It's just unfortunate that he was born to fight at a weight which was about as "unsexy" as it gets for mainstream fans,but people have to understand the importance of fighting at your optimum weight.Nowadays people just assume going through the weights is a piece of ****.
I know his lack of name opponents goes against him,but for me,along with Arguello,he's the perfect example of how to fight out of an orthodox stance with no flash.
On a personal level,Finito is one of my favourite fighters,but I appreciate why some people have a problem rating him over Chavez.
But he was a better boxer IMO.And to any youngsters looking for a good role model to study,Finito is as pure a boxer as you'll find.

Finito is definetly in the top 5 when it comes to skill alone.

But overall, he doesn't even make the top 10. Thats no knock on him at all, Mexico just happens to have many greats. I'd have him in the top 15.

 

One of the most skillful of course. Many posters base or rate a fighter on skill like Floyd for example because their highly skilled. I rate them more on the quality they fought. Unfortunately for Finito, tho he did face highly skilled and tough fighters, his weight class didn't get and still doesn't get the attention it deserves. Also usually the lighter the weight, the harder for them to stay at the top or be an elite unlike heavyweights. But I have no argument him being a top 5-10 Mexican fighter. Even past his prime he drew and beat a prime Alvarez who was a beast in his short prime.
