Chavez's workrate and whimsical defense will be his undoing

Unless he uses a highguard or applies a lot of pressure, he will get hurt. Regardless of how iron his chin is. He's gonna have to be better defensively. Fortunately for him Martinez can get off balance and can become complacent in fights. He still will eat a lot of punches but will be much bigger than Martinez. I think that's the gameplan. Size difference will equate lack of defense and lack of workrate.

Sergios jabs to the body followed up by the straight left will be key,ii also think martinez breaks chavez's nose with that straight left and makes it hard for him to breathe.

I think Chavez's body work will also play a key role . The kid goes to the body well and seems to land pretty hard. I think Sergio will win but I think this aspect of the fight will be the most interesting. I mean we all know Martinez can take it on the chin, but how is he going to handle the repeated body attack? I can't wait to see personally.

I hate how they waited a few years, only therefor I hope sergio ko's him, I expect him to as well, jr. is way too open to avoid getting hit by hard punches all night.

I agree actually and those are the 2 exact things that secure my pick with Sergio and make up for Chavez's size. He does bring pressure and body work that could trouble Sergio, but his workrate isn't that good for a pressure fighter. Plus idc how good your chin is, if your defense allows Sergio to tee off on you constantly while you're not landing on him often enough, then you'll lose

He's the bigger guy so he should be able to manhandle him and apply lots of pressure. He should but he might not know what the **** to do.

He may not even be able to land many body shots.

The scenario which will best suit Chavez, is if he wins a number of rounds early. And wins a couple of the later rounds to make it a winnable fight for him. Rounds 1 to 9 will be crucial. He needs to land many body shots early on to win this i feel. He needs to make Martinez gas out in the mid rounds and make Martinez look his age. If he lets off him and lets Martinez tee off on him in the early rounds, it's over. If it's even possible for him. Martinez is no Rubio or Andy Lee.

If it goes to the judges and looks a close fight, he will get the nod. In the past many judges have focused on the later rounds rather than the early to mid rounds. It's Top Rank fight, so it works this way.

Or he knocks Martinez out, which is possible. Martinez often gets complacent at times in his fights and loses his balance often.

I think Chavez will be shocked at how hard Martinez punches. He punches harder than Rubio, and anyone hes faced so far. Chavez claims he has his father's chin. That's arguable. Rubio hits hard but could only knock out many prospects, or shop worn boxers. He could never knock out a top level middleweight. So he doesn't hit hard enough to be world class. In comparison to Martinez, who has all the hallmarks which make you a world class fighter.

the other day i watched the 8 minute HBO highlight for Chavez and the 9 minute highlight of Martinez

I came away with a few thoughts of my own

A- this fight will most likely be a battle both guys are nowhere near boring

    B- great clash of styles

Chavez- great body attack gotta be p4p top 10 or 5 to the body, his pressure is incredible, chin seems great, also his right hand to the head is a punch gone untalked about its what got Manfredo and Lee in real danger

watching Lee highlights you could see his hands drop as the fight goes on, Martinez hasnt been hit to the body like that since Margarito, i doubt Chavez wont get to the body so it will be interesting to see how Martinez reacts

Martinez to me has stamina issues, when pushed in Williams 1 he faded down the stretch and has taken rounds off in several fights, Chavez will bring it

Martinez does present a tough test of his own, I listed where Chavez may have a good chance above but Martinez has just as many if not more problems

Movement and jab, Martinez can make this a range fight and may be too quick and smart to let this become a brawl, he could catch the taller Chavez lowering to hit the body and catch him cold like Williams or enough to keep him weary of going down

Also Lee landed a straight left that Chavez walked into in the highlights, Martinez sshould have a field day setting traps and countering i feel

Martinez has been troubled by high guard jabbers who are defensive and thats not Chavez those he did lose to Margarito but that was so long ago its probably irrelevant

Chavez may pose the problems Williams did with size and out put

but it may be like the Zbik fight but with a more powerful Zbik

vs Zbik Chavez broke cardinal rules of boxing like eating the same punch 3 times in a row, now maybe it was a disregard for Zbik's power but if he does this vs Martinez chances are he will get hurt

Martinez may find a home for that left and keep landing, the right hook is Martinez best punch i think and it will be there for him

Finally Martinez always has this late in the fight extra gear that Chavez hasnt shown

Martinez turns it up, Chavezz relies on breaking guys down so they are weak and in low gear later

this fight will be decided on if Martinez hits that championship gear and pulls through or if Chavez eliminates that gear by battering the ribs and stomach

If Martinez has declined dramatically from the Macklin fight, then Chavez has the cards in favour for him. If Martinez's has slowed down a lot, his balance is off, his legs have gone,...etc... Which usually only happens after many wars. Not just after 1 decent scrap.

I know Martinez is a gifted athlete, and has a better training regime. Stamina issues plague fighters with age, but his overall athleticism will win him this fight.

I think Chavez also seemed unsure of himself in the face off. The eye thing he did was a classic sign. It means nothing but when two people are face to face, you can usually distinguish emotions in a person much easier.

i dont think Chavez brings the awkward style Macklin brought, its two different fights

what i will say is Macklin fought hard for 12 rounds and it bugged Sergio, he got a strange knockdown off the back of just coming at Chavez

Barker was giving him a good run for a while

Martinez has a way of getting another gear, Chavez has to do damage

Barker and Macklin made the fight difficult but didnt wear Chavez down

Chavez has to get to him early, body punchers are like a snowball effect it has to build in time, if Chavez doesnt hit Martinez body consistently in the first 6 rounds he may not pile on enough damage to tire him

Martinez is the hardest puncher from MW division , NOT Golovkin. Chavit has a good chin but not that good enough to walk thru Martinez staight lefts and left hooks. Not saying that Sergio will T/K.O Jr , although it will be awesome , but surely he will keep Jr at distance with his power and accuracy .:yep:cool:
